GRANITE CITY - A Sothern Illinois woman was arrested last week (March 17) after trying to intervene on behalf of her 14-year old daughter’s effort to have an abortion. The girl was allegedly taken to an abortion clinic by the mother of the man allegedly to have impregnated the 14-year old.

I hope the parents of the girl press charges.

**The girl’s mother must have felt so helpless. It’s just so crazy the way things work in this country. You need parental consent for everything else EXCEPT an ABORTION. **

The police in the community in which the family lives allegedly told the girl’s mom that they couldn’t intervene despite her making a charge that her daughter had been raped (by statute) because the charge was stale–7 weeks after the incident. They did tell the girl’s mom that, while she had no right to stop the abortion, she did have a right to go into the clinic and speak to her daughter
.
Why couldn’t they check for the man’s DNA (paternity test) from the aborted fetus?

The only way parental consent laws are going to be passed is if parents go public with their stories, press charges and sue. So many people are unaware that their daughters don’t need their consent to have an abortion.

They need consent to get their ears pierced, don’t they?

They need consent to give them medication at school, Doctor’s note, prescription bottle, etc. But this story says they took her out of school to get the abortion. Sickening. You shouldn’t be allowed to perform ANY medical procedure on my child without my knowledge.

I knew two people in high school that were married (why is another thread). They still needed an absence excused signed by their parents.

Fourteen year olds do not have the right to drive, vote, serve in the Armed Forces, buy cigarettes, rent a hotel room, etc.

This is horrible. The person (the other mother) assisting should be charged with endangering the life of a minor - since it is a non-necessary medical procedure.

It seems to me that the school should be sued and the kidnapping charges filed againt the person that removed the child from school.

The mother was not arrested for attempting to prevent an abortion she was removed from a clinic for causing a disturbance. There is clearly a lot more to this story than meets the eye. Perhaps people should try to get more facts before jumping to conclusions.

What for example does the local police department say about the incident? There are no direct quotes from them. Which station was it?

Also who “tipped off” the Small Victories Ministry so conveniently? I can understand why family names are concealed but why is it that the only name in the story is Angela Michaels of the ministry? If all other quotes are attributed annonymously how can we check if they are true?

Matt, I’m suprised at you!!! Since when has the truth ever got in the way of a good story?

Arrested for causing a disturbance??? I would be sitting in jail right next to her if it was my child too!!!A parent has no rights in this situation???It’s your child and grandchild whose life is in danger. When are people going to understand this??? A young girl can not get any medical care whatsoever without her parents consent…except an abortion. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS WORLD???

I guess Matt25 and Norwich are now also pro-abortion as well as pro-islamist. I guess the same culture of death applies.

None of the other facts matter if a child was taken out of school by a stranger to have her baby murdered. If it was my child I would venture to guess that disorderly conduct would be the least of the charges. Would you not fight to protect your child and grandchild?

Yes, the nerve of a mother.

Imagine the hullabaloo if the daughter had been taken out of school without permission to get her ears’ pierced!!

A friend could not take a student to a dental appointment without parental permission. I can't understand how these people get away with this.

I am not pro-Islamist, I just don’t believe all the nonsense talked about Muslims by bigots on this forum. The Holy Father kissed the Quran, opposed the invasion of Iraq and prayed that the hi-jackers of September 2001 be forgiven. Does that make him pro-Islamist too?

This story here would be appalling if true. But the only ‘evidence’ for it seems to be the bare word of one pro-life campaigner. Tell me how many people on this Forum would accept the bare word of a pro-choice campaigner about anything. We cannot have two standards of evidence one for those with whom we agree and one for those whom we don’t like.

There were several parties involved in this alleged incident the clinic, the police, the family, other patients and relatives and the (mysteriously tipped off) Small Victories Ministry yet only one is quoted by name. Does this not strike you as odd? I would excpect a journalist to at least phone the local police station asking for comment, but no , they didn’t do that. Strange.
