Mother of Guadalupe

I saw this on another website:

"The Blessed Virgin Mother of Guadalupe is just one of many different apparitions She has performed throughout this earth. She has been the intercessor to Jesus Christ for all sinners in this world, who have asked for Her help in our redemption and salvation.

Saint Dominic created a prayer to Her, in our need of help, called the Holy Rosary. it is prayed by all the different nations in this world in their own language."

I was taught not to refer to Mary as Our Lady of Guadalupe although we learn the story of Juan Diego seeing a vision of teenage girl in Mexico who he believed to be Mary. She asked him to have a church built at that location. Is the above statement the accurate accounting of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the creation of the Holy Rosary?

Saint Dominic and the rosary were centuries before O L of Gaudalupe. As a texan I am a little dissapointed in how little interest this subject has attracted.

Other than one other thread bout which propers to use for an EF mass, this is it.

I think you are misreading the statement. The author is saying that O.L. of Guadalupe is only one of many apparitions of Mary - that Mary is our intercessor. And that St. Dominic wrote the Rosary for Mary. Not for O.L. of Guadalupe, but for the Blessed Mother.

And he wrote it in 1214, but Our Lady appeared at Guadalupe in 1531.

Remember that we are not compelled to believe in any apparition, even when they are approved by the Church. All that approval means is that nothing that was said by the apparition is contrary to Church teaching.

As mentioned, the Rosary (or rather early forms of it) was already pretty much established in Europe as a devotion to Mary when she appeared to Juan Diego. There is some confusion as to whether St. Domingo de Guzman himself really instituted the devotion as popularly believed (something contemporary records are silent about) or whether it was developed by someone else (a different Dominic is often considered to be a likely candidate) and evolved gradually as time went, but we do know that devotions which we could consider to be the ancestors of our modern Rosary were already known in Europe for a number of centuries (even in St. Dominic’s lifetime) before the apparitions at Mexico.

P.S. I think that when the writer of that paragraph said ‘her’ it is supposed to refer to Mary but not necessarily under her title of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, mystical rose, intercede for the Church, protect the Holy Father, help all who invoke you in their necessities. Since you are the ever Virgin Mary and Mother of the true God, obtain for us from your most holy Son the Grace of a firm faith and sure hope amid the bitterness of life, as well as an ardent love and the precious gift of final perseverance. Amen.
