Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Mary is truly the Queen of heaven and earth, and in our prayer “Hail, Holy Queen”, we call upon her as “Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope”. We know that Jesus is our life as well as Mary’s life; every life is a gift from God. Yet as we pray this prayer, I wonder how often we simply “say words” without pondering, without really paying attention to the words.

Having prayed often to Mary during this recent election that she might intercede for the unborn, I was very conscious of “Life”. I am conscious this morning of how Mary interceded for us to save the unborn from continuing dangers particularly from unjust laws of government. I am conscious of Mary’s heart as a Mother who held the Life of Jesus in her womb. Mary knows it is always God’s Will to work good.

Mary held all sweetness in her womb, and all hope in her womb and she is so united to Him now, He has answered our prayer for those still in the wombs of women all over the world. President-elect Trump and his Administration can only do so much. The Catholic Church, and each one of us needs to do more in prayer and work – in our own hearts and to help others to come closer to the Heart of God as well, through Mary,by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Do I hear an “Amen”?

Dear Brian,

Thanks so much for your “Amen”.

Looking at the totals, however, more Catholics in the USA voted for Trump than Hillary. The Catholics were, however, not as much for Trump as the Protestants and I think that may be because Protestant ministers and leaders were far more outspoken in favor of Trump than were Catholic clergy.

I’m not sure where the majority of my parish were in their voting, but my state is predominantly Republican and so I’m hoping our parish did not give Hillary many votes at all. God saved the nation, Brian, through the intercession of our Mother Mary. Our Parish did pray a lot of Rosaries! 🙂

I prayed to Mary under the title of Our Lady of America (not sure if that title is approved at the highest level though…).

Trump has many flaws and weaknesses (but who doesn’t?) — but hopefully God can still use him for good purposes and for purification of his soul. (And also Hillary — no one is beyond God’s grace and mercy.)

Mary, Help of Christians, pray for us.

The Hail Holy Queen is one of my favorite prayers.

I share those thoughts, and now I am also praying for those who have been on the receiving end of Mr Trump’s insults. For instance those citizen’s who without deserving it have been made to feel unwelcome.

I agree. Whenever there is resentment, anger, and bitterness, the vile enemy will take advantage to sow even greater dissent and chaos.

We have to pray for healing and dialog, without compromising truth and conviction.

There is a fringe element within some Trump supporters — I hope he calls them out and roots it out before it spreads like cancer.

Dear EIF5A,

As to the title “Our Lady of America” certainly the title has the received local approval from the Archbishop but as to “higher levels” in Rome, I think the closest to that would be Cardinal Burke who has supported it. There is nothing contrary to faith in calling Mary “Our Lady of America”. If anyone would like more information on this title, see HERE

Yes, we all are sinners and saved by Grace. We need to keep praying for President-elect Trump, for President Obama and for Hillary Clinton that there be a true and peaceful transfer of power. They have spoken well after the elction, yet much remains to be done to heal the divisions and build up America in faith and goodwill.

I pray especially for all those who are still in favor of abortion that they may see the intrinsic evil of killing innocent babies in their mothers’ wombs.

Thanks so much, Katherine! Yes, it is a beautiful prayer and the more I pray the words the more I love Mary and continue to grow in awe of all God has done in and through Mary. 🙂

Dear rose kelly,

Thanks for your reply, and for your prayers. There has been a growing divide in this country that has been fueled by many different factors. I do not think all the blame goes to Mr. Trump. Citizens of this country need to look into their own hearts to find the love for God and Country that used to be more prevalent than we see today. God told us to “forgive our enemies” as well as to “overcome evil and do good”.

Yes, let us all continue praying to our Mother of Mercy, our Life, our Sweetness and our Hope, that we may learn as she learned from Jesus, by the power of the Holy Spirit. We have much work to do in building up the Body of Christ by speaking the truth lovingly. (Eph 4:16)

No I won’t blame him MariaChristi, we have similar divisions here in Britain where I live.

A little earlier I was watching him on TV meeting Mr Obama and felt very much ecouraged at seeing that nice side of his nature.
I am not going to pretend I don’t have some doubts about him, but I hope and pray he will be a good President.

Thanks so much, dear rose,

Yes, there is much to hope for in every person made in the image and likeness of God. Our hope is not in the individual but rather in God who can do such great things in all of us whom He created. 🙂

Please let us continue to pray for one another, through Mary, for the Church and for all those in most need of God’s Mercy.
