Mourning our missing kitty

Yes, our Sammy is a beautiful boy. I saw some black cats up for adoption at our local Petco today. It broke my heart to see kitties that look so like my boy, as well as to see those sweet kitties in cages waiting for someone to care for them. Even if we could afford to adopt one of them, we are waiting for our Sammy to come home.

was checking in to see if your boy made it home, that is tough, but my bet is he is taking care of himself wherever he is

DD’s cat got miffed when she went off to GS camp and ran away, so when school starts the kids see her living in the lap of luxury with the nuns at the convent. hope Sammy has found a good billet, but misses you and will be home soon.
 
Cats will take it into their heads to do the oddest things, won’t they? I hope Sammy’s been taken in by someone who’s loving him, too, if he doesn’t come back to us. He’s got an ID chip under his skin if anyone takes him to a lab, vet, or animal shelter. One of my biggest fears is someone grabbed him to sell to a research lab, although that seems unlikely. Anyway, we’re hoping we’ll be getting a call about him soon, if he doesn’t come home on his own.

What a unique idea annie :).

Unfortunately I don’t have any really happy tales of cats gone missing and showing up again. Every one of our cats that have done this except one very sick cat left and never came back. One was old and an “outdoor” cat to begin with so I thought perhaps he decided it was his time to die and he left to find a place to do that (cats are known for this).

I do hope your Sammy comes home soon even though it is now 9 days after your first post about his going missing.

It would be interesting to see/hear what they’ve been up to while gone, but I wish the chip would send out a signal if the cat strays beyond a certain distance with a GPS finder attached. Of course, that would be pretty expensive for an ordinary housecat like ours.

I hope you find your lost kitty! We lost our cat right before we moved from NJ, and never found her due to moving so far away. I just am thankful she was spayed and vaccinated, for her own safety.

Please do not let your cats go outside. Cats do not need to go out, it only increases their chances of being hit by cars, abused, catching diseases and becoming pregnant (if they are not spayed/neutered, and I do hope they are!)

When I think of all the terrible things that could have happened to him, it’s just too much. That’s why I hope a neighbor took him in (not knowing he has a home) and is loving him and caring for him. I could accept that. I just wish I knew. Most of all I want him home with us again, God willing.

Della, I just read this post of yours. Believe me I KNOW what you are feeling and what you are saying! It has been 2 years since we lost our cat, and because of our move, we were not able to go out and look for her (we moved 2 hours away from where she was lost!)

I think about her often, and hope and pray she is alright. We lived in a remote suburban-type area (cul de sac, too), so I’m hoping this would keep her from going out onto highways, etc

Something that helped me a lot was reading Psalm 104…it speaks of God taking care of and feeding all living creatures.
 
Thank you for your suggestions, HashemEchad. We have alerted our local animal shelters, etc. He has an ID chip, as well.

We let 3 of our 4 cats go out because we have a very tiny house and we have a very safe neighborhood with lots of cats belonging to neighbors that come to visit our cats on our property, which we don’t mind at all.

Sammy’s not a people cat. He wouldn’t let just anyone pick him up (he barely lets us) and carry him away without putting up a good fight. They’d look like they’d been through a blender. Ha! If he’s roaming he’ll come home on his own. He’s been neutered and has had all his shots.

I’m sorry you lost your cat. Hopefully she was taken in by someone. Another one of our cats was abandoned as a kitten and found his way into our garage. My dh found him and just as the kitten was about to run away from him, he turned and meowed, asking for people help. Needless to say, he’s been with us ever since. He’s now a big, golden tabby named Merry–for his merry disposition.

Just so you can picture him, he’s black, with white splotches from his throat down his tummy. He is short-haired, with golden eyes. Because he looks like a miniature panther, I call him my “panther cat.” Although you can’t see it in the picture, he’s also polydactyl with 6 toes on his front paws and 7 on his back paws.

Sammy looks just like the two brother black cats I had years ago, and they were also polydactyl! If I had a scanner I’d scan their pics in to show you!

We had gotten them in a weird way…we were visiting a friend of mine, and in his backyard were two black kittens with HUGE feet! Turned out the neighbor across the way had them, but put them out because he could not sell them (his cat probably had a litter.)

So, we adopted them!

This kind of thing has rarely ended happily for us so I know what a relief it is when they do come home safe and sound, if a bit hungry!!

I’m so glad to hear that! I was getting depressed, worrying if he was OK (I worry about all lost pets, esp. since I know what it feels like).
 
I am soooo happy for you. Wow, you must have given that little critter a ton of hugs.

He expected to just slide on home like it was just another day - nothing happened, what’s all the fuss?😃

Thanks, everyone for rejoicing with us. We kept Sammy and the other cats in last night so they could get reacquainted and Sammy would bond with the house and us, again. Our Merry still isn’t sure about the “stranger” in his house. It’s only been 9 days, but he didn’t recognize Sammy and is still leery of him. I didn’t grab Sammy right away, either. He’s not really a people cat. I didn’t want to get all scratched up if he didn’t know me. But, after a little while, he started to warm up to us, so I took the chance, picked him up and gave him a big hug and a kiss. He squirmed like an 8 year old boy being hugged and kissed by his great aunt. LOL! But this morning he wanted lots of attention, so he remembers us again. He’s puzzled by Merry’s reaction, but he’s no longer taking any guff out of our “emperor cat,” Pippin, so he got some moxie in his travels. How I wish I could ask him why he wandered off and how he found his way home again. But, like a good many such things–it’s a mystery known only to God. Sorry to ramble on, but I’m so happy to have the little scamp back home. Thanks again, everybody!
