You might not think that this thread is in the correct forum, but believe me, if others are having the same feelings as me it is. I mean has anyone really ever wanted to move out of the US? Now, I don’t mean for a better job or money, but to get away from just that–greed and money. Basically the corrpt(sp?) society of America. Anyone else feel this way. Let the Holy Spirt direct our lives.

Where would you go? Certainly Europe is even more secularized than the U.S. I personally would love to spend time in a rural, wilderness area, either U.S. or elsewhere, because that type of isolated place would be such a change from the hustle and bustle of my crazy suburban life. But I can’t think of too many destinations out of the USA that would help my overall spirituality.

The Holy Spirit already has. I was born here, raised here, lived here from birth. God chose this country for me. I am not giving up just because it is not easy. I have buried many of my forbearers and my family, who fought for this country and for you and I in this here soil you seem so much to dislike. The world changes and countries change when we work where God plants us.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway. I will take my move to the only country that matter, eternity eventually, God willing and I don’t fail the mission He gave me by choosing where and when I was born.

Marie

You know, I was thinking, on Independence Day, how great America is, despite the “bad rap” we’ve had lately. What other country honors God in its creeds? The Declaration of Independence, the Pledge of Allegiance, on our money? In our Anthems… Our founding fathers fought for our freedom, signing a document that they knew would bring their death if caught. And they did it honoring God. I know we have had a decline in morals and values, it shows the devil’s work is rampant here. Some places are worse than America. I think evil is everywhere. We have to choose (another wonderful freedom of ours) to fight the decline of morals in ourselves, through our prayers and in our examples. We need to be spiritual warriors now more than ever, facing the evils of society and fighting back with holy intent. Think of post 9/11. We all united together - cried with each other, bonded, healed, prayed. It didn’t matter if you were black, white, Catholic, Protestant, Atheist or Jewish. We were brothers and sisters then. That to me, is God’s work. And everywhere God is, the devil is, trying to unravel things, and wield us like puppets to his evil temptations. So you see decline in morals, divided society. Because things were positive. And evil always chases the good away to the best of it’s ability. I believe we need every spiritual soldier here, you included. To fight, to pray, to choose with our freedoms, a better world, a better society, a better America.

God Bless and Happy Fourth.

I would point this out to anyone who reads this thread:
…*Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. *
  • If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you* …
Psalm 139:7-13 RSV
God is present everywhere…

In the depths of every human heart, soul and mind,
In all of creation,
In every nation,
From the beginning of time to the end of the age,
To the furthest extents of the universe.

Our call is to look for Him, do His will, and bear witness to Our Lord’s resurrection, wherever we are, in everything we do. There is no higher calling. I would urge all readers to not give up on their nation or whatever relationships are bringing sorrow and distress, but to live out that call here and now…

Hi, Jacob,

You sound tired, very tired of the rat race and the struggle it can entail. Where there are lots of people, it is natural there will be lots of corruption, where there are less people, less corruption.

Certainly, sometimes I feel like escaping society. It is instinct, that fight or flee reaction. Not everybody is called, by the way, to live out their lives with lots of people. Many great saints were hermits and many saints who lived out their lives amongst others felt the need to (regularly) get away from it all and be alone with God.

Have you thought about going on a retreat or even taking a long weekend just to relax and renew? Take it from one who knows: it helps.

As for anyone whose patriotism has been offended, I don’t really think the base for the thread was anti-patriotism. People’s spirits get low sometimes, no matter how spiritual they might be.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be consoled.”

Jacob, just keep praying for yourself, your loved ones, your community, this country, the world, and take a break if you can.

God bless you.

Jacob,dont become to discouraged mate.
The sad reality is that there are many places in the world in a bigger mess than America, I should know I live in one.
Myself and my brothers often talk of emigrating, but this is where God has placed us. And our Father in Heaven has a purpose and a reason for placing us where we are. We may be the instrument that God wants to use to help change society, however small that may.
Although the Church in America has had a bad time of late, there are many positive good things going on. To name some, EWTN, Catholic Answers, Archbishop Chaput , SOLT, Scott Hahn, Fr Corapi.
I also notice in my well thumbed Atlas that you live near Stubenville, some time there spent in the Catholic University will help to give you a lift . I believe that they have activities for non students.
On a secular level remember you have the best donuts, great hiking country, Florida and decent Dentists. 👍
God bless

Christ wanted us to ‘go out’ and make disciples among those in the world.
Fleeing society is not the solution, it only creates isolationism. I am sure Christ did not want us to be isolationists!
The early Church had to hide but the people were out and about, but it was through their personal lives that brought others to the Church.

We are going to be perscuited regardless where we go.
In 50 years, we colonize the moon, it will happen there too.

I do agree to a point to leave the rat race, a rural community would be ideal, but no matter where you go, ‘the world’s problems will follow you.’ You can run but you can’t hide, from the world OR from God!.

We are IN the world NOT of it!

Go with God!

I think everybody gets tired of the daily rat race. When the kids were home, we were really busy, and thought that when they grew up and left, we would have more time to ourselves. Wrong! Only recently have I gotten off the merry go round due to hip surgery, but after 6 weeks of physical restrictions, I’m ready to go again. I think if we checked with people of other countries, they would say the same thing about their country. God bless the USA, keep our homeland in our prayers.

Jacob,

Grace to you and peace from God [our Father] and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thes.1, 2.

Greed and, especially, the inordinate love of money are evil. Evil can be found anywhere in the world. Even sometimes in places in what we might consider peaceful. However, God is everywhere. Most importantly He should be very present in our heart. That’s where prayer comes in. Lots of it. Ask Jesus to give you** that Peace **that he has promised that the world cannot give. When he grants you that request, you’ll find that you will be happy, no matter where you are.

I like to tell you a story that I have read that supposedly happened during WW II. It is about a priest who came from Europe (I don’t recall the country,) who was sent to one of the islands in the Pacific. It became known to him that soon the Japanese army would invade the territory he was in. He became very afraid and fled (I guess by boat) to Australia only for him to meet his death there by the same invaders he had ran away from. I guess the lesson of the story is that you really cannot flee from evil - you have to face it. But deep down, we are all cowards. That’s when we turn to God. Remember If God is for us, who can stand to be against us?

Maybe each day you might want to thank God for where He has planted you for the moment. Stay close to Him during the day. He wants you to be happy. I have read that if one becomes gloomy in his/her outlook in life, you can be sure that the evil one is nearby casting that gloom over the person. I have memorized the next prayer that I think is part of Psalms. It is a most powerful prayer. It goes as follows: Arise, oh Lord, and let thy enemies be scattered, and let them that hate thee flee from before thy face. Try to say this prayer several times a day with sincerity and thoughtfullnes and notice how your outlook of life will become brighter. From experience I have found that, any time I feel afraid or disturbed by certain thoughts, the recitation of the Apostles Creed will block those thoughts. Consider how awesome the beginning of the Apostles Creed already is: I believe in God…

I better stop writing. This post will otherwise become too long. I hope I was of some help.

Would love to find out how you’ll be doing in your next post.

I have often considered moving to Rome herself. However i feel if this is really the most corrupt place on earth, it could then use the most help and effort to repair it.
