***Where this even partly true, the bible would be usless. ***
I can provide a list of FIFTY FIRST accomplishments of Peter which are further suppored by these two verses:
**Matt.10: 2
“The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zeb’edee, and John his brother;"
Eph. 2:19-20 “So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, [singular]*** built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets***, **Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, ** in whom the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; [singular] in whom you also are built into it for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit."
Here then are ten of Peters FIRST [keep in mind there are at least fourty more]
Peter’s name occurs first in all lists of apostles (Mt 10:2; Mk 3:16; Lk 6:14; Acts 1:13). Matthew even calls him the “first” (10:2). Judas Iscariot is invariably mentioned last.
Peter is almost without exception named first whenever he appears with anyone else. In one (only?) example to the contrary, Galatians 2:9, where he (“Cephas”) is listed after James and before John, he is clearly preeminent in the entire context (e.g., 1:18-19; 2:7-8).
**Peter **alone among the apostles receives a new name, Rock, solemnly conferred (Jn 1:42; Mt 16:18).
Likewise, Peter is regarded by Jesus as the Chief Shepherd after Himself (Jn 21:15-17), singularly by name, and over the universal Church, even though others have a similar but subordinate role (Acts 20:28; 1 Pet 5:2).
**Peter **alone among the apostles is mentioned by name as having been prayed for by Jesus Christ in order that his “faith may not fail” (Lk 22:32).
**Peter **alone among the apostles is exhorted by Jesus to “strengthen your brethren” (Lk 22:32).
**Peter **first confesses Christ’s divinity (Mt 16:16).
**Peter **alone is told that he has received divine knowledge by a special revelation (Mt 16:17).
Peter is regarded by the Jews (Acts 4:1-13) as the leader and spokesman of Christianity.
**Peter **is regarded by the common people in the same way (Acts 2:37-41; 5:15).
**Jesus Christ uniquely associates Himself and Peter **in the miracle of the tribute-money (Mt 17:24-27).
Further searching STRONG’s Hebrew and Greek lexicon a non-Catholic source] one finfs this:
Peter from Hebrew: Result of search for “Peter”:
6363 peter peh’-ter or pitrah {pit-raw’}; from 6362; a fissure, i.e. (concretely) firstling (as opening the matrix):–firstling, openeth, such as open.
And in Greek: Result of search for “Peter”:
***2786. Kephas kay-fas’ of Chaldee origin (compare 3710); the Rock; Cephas (i.e. Kepha), a surname of Peter:–Cephas. ***4074. Petros pet’-ros apparently a primary word; a (piece of) rock (larger than 3037); as a name, Petrus, an apostle:–Peter, rock. Compare 2786.
The autthor als o fails to ponit out that in Hebrew the terms are “GENDER SENSITIVE”…
Surely a PERFECT God would NOT refer to Peter as “female gender!”
Then of course thereis the historical evidence [in abundence] of the Early fathrs who too give testimonny of Peter as the recogonized head of the ONE True Church…
Clement of Rome
Accept our counsel and you will have nothing to regret. . . . If anyone disobeys the things which have been said by him [Jesus] through us, let them know that they will involve themselves in no small danger. We, however, shall be innocent of this sin and will pray with entreaty and supplication that the Creator of all may keep unharmed the number of his elect (Letter to the Corinthians 58:2, 59:1[A.D. 95]).
Ignatius of Antioch
You [the See of Rome] have envied no one, but others have you taught. I desire only that what you have enjoined in your instructions may remain in force (Epistle to the Romans
3:1 [A.D. 110]).
Irenaeus
But since it would be too long to enumerate in such a volume as this the succession of all the churches, we shall confound all those who, in whatever manner, whether through self-satisfaction or vainglory, or through blindness and wicked opinion, assemble other than where it is proper, by pointing out here the successions of the bishops of the greatest and most ancient church known to all, founded and organized at Rome by the two most glorious apostles. Peter and Paul, that church which has the tradition and the faith which comes down to us after having been announced to men by the apostles. With that church, because of its superior origin, all the churches must agree, that is, all the faithful in the whole world, and it is in her that the faithful everywhere have maintained the apostolic tradition (Against Heresies 3:3:2
[inter A.D. 180-190]).
