No thank you. I want to take this girl to a good movie. I don’t even believe she is Catholic. Maybe not even Christian but I am not sure. Honestly nor do I care if she is or isn’t. I like her for her. Even if we only stay friends she is awesome.

I’m questioning on my faith. I also meant my first post here on CAF.
I think it is probably wise to not date and not involve someone romantically when your identity as a Catholic and even as a sexed person is being dicerned. Putting these things in front of your priorities will benifit the soul and not the body. To seek a date when you know neither is unfair to yourself, the other person, and your souls.
So really, even though my answer was cheeky, no one on here should make a movie suggestion for you at this time.

Ps, my name causes confusion too. I am a daddy, I don’t live in Indiana anymore. Thank goodness. 😃

Yessss…

But God is, well, God. It’s not like he’s not aware of what happens in other times and places (you know, omnipotent and omniscient). Now an argument could be made that perhaps Jesus didn’t have access to this information, but it would be an unclear one. Certainly he had the *capacity *to have access to all the information concerning movies (and all future movies and whatever we have instead of movies in the future) even if said capacity was not actualized for whatever reason. I certainly don’t think he would call it witchcraft, because he knows perfectly well when demons are interfering with things (better than anyone, actually). 😉

On another note this thread is getting a bit off of track. I too thought NM505 was female and was thus mildly offended by the fact that NM505 was (as I saw it) asking for advice on a homosexual date from people who were not in fact supportive of homosexual dates. I chose to hold my tongue because I didn’t want to be uncharitable and so that other, wiser people could respond. That being said, I would highly recommend that we reroute the thread towards its original purpose now that the issue has been cleared up.

Chastising the OP for uncatholic/unchristian views about sexuality will do no good to help him understand a philosophical viewpoint that he has not been exposed to and is, if anything, merely off putting. Do I disagree with his ideology? Yes, fervently. Do we need to address it this instant or address it through mockery (however apt it may or may not be)? No I don’t think we do. We certainly ought not be rude while doing so, if we do.

On another note, NM505, you might be benefitted by putting “male” on your profile if it isn’t there already. The Kate part is really, really confusing. 😉

Ahem…

Now back to movies. As you know, NM505, Christians typically support a certain amount of self-awareness about what types of movies we watch and their intents and purposes. While we try not to fall into the bad habit of censoring perfectly helpful (if slightly flawed)movies, the act of media discernment is an important habit to get into. Some movies are honestly not healthy to either dwell on or fill ourselves with, because what we “digest” mentally literally shapes our actions, thoughts, and arguably our very soul. (This is why Christians object so strenuously to Pornography and other vices).

Colossians 2:8: “See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.”

Given what I have read about Deadpool, I simply cannot recommend it. I do like the vague outline of the character Deadpool (as portrayed for kids in Lego videogames :D), but he has many frankly unsettling characteristics in this movie and in his comics that make me unwilling to let that particular character influence me. He is very much not in any way a hero I want to look up to or be more like, which I think negates the whole point of a superhero. While we can’t expect fully perfect heroes, I believe it is important to focus our mind on standards that are good and noble – better than us, and therefore someone we can look up to and follow. Characters like Deadpool act as negative role-models that do not portray these good characteristics, acting as a bad example rather than a positive one. [See for example, this Family Friendliness review: Deadpool - Plugged In
. Warning. Some spoilers.]

Ultimately, the choice is up to you. I can’t (and won’t) tell you what to watch. You are an adult, the decision is yours and yours alone. But if you want a move that portrays a man who was truly a hero, I suggest Race, the story about Jesse Owen, a black runner who bested the Nazis, proving that their Aryan-only pride was unrealistic and unreal. He has his failures too, but he, unlike Deadpool, is a man who can truly be looked up to – and, ironically, a greater hero as well. [Family Friendliness Review: http://www.pluggedin.com/movie-reviews/race-2016 Warning. Some Spoilers.]

First thank you for being civil. 🙂 Deadpool was never meant to be a role model nor a hero. That is his whole point and appeal. Heck the actor so wanted this movie to be rated R. With so much hype about the another who knows where it can go. My bff said Deadpool is not a date movie and I even figured as such. In my opening post I stated that I was not talking my friend to it unless she wanted to go. She may like Race but up to her. I am looking for suggestions so I can know what is out there. I have seen Witch, Risen and Race. Are there any others??

Why do they have to be called anything? I don’t understand the constant labeling. I’d never go up to someone and say, “Hi. I’m Regina. I was born female and identify as female,” which is what these labels do. Why not just say, “Hi, I’m Regina.”
You don’t have to say you were born female and identify as such. A “Hi I’m X” is perfect.

if I may ask how is it unfair?

Words have meaning.

When you say you are Catholic, that means something. If someone told me they were Catholic I would expect that they actually subscribed to Catholic teaching. It seems that you do not do so, on many fronts.

I haven’t even gotten a straight answer from you on whether you believe Jesus is God. Which is pretty basic to the Catholic religion. You keep saying he’s a man who would be confused by movies. While this is a seriously obtuse comment to start with, it does leave doubt as to your understanding of or acceptance of who Jesus actually is.

If you are a man asking a woman out on a date, she presumes you are just that. But, you have indicated you are all these others things: “gender fluid”, “bisexual”, whatever.

It is being suggested that you should figure out what your religions is, and what your sexuality is, before you entangle another person in your life romantically.

As it is, it appears there is a lot of room for misunderstandings.

Why would it matter if her and I get along? What difference would it make if we are compatible?

I follow where evidence leads me. Yes I was raised Catholic and even go to mass with my parents. Oddly last homily the priest misinformed the people on Job. Having read Job the situation he described was not is in the book. Even if Jesus existed there is no other evidence about what he did. Feeding five thousand men, not counting women and kids, on more than one occasion is a huge feat that would have been recorded by anyone else. Same with raising someone from the grave as such news would have been written down by other sources.

What is “compatible”? At the very least, the person you’re with deserves to know who you are. It sounds as if you haven’t quite figured that out, and if you don’t know, it is rather unfair to expect your partner to sort it out. If you wish for any sort of lasting relationship, a rough parity in values, religion, priorities, expectations, etc is–to say the least–desirable.

I was confused by it as well (even after looking at the Wikipedia page). My guess is that it is intended as a counterpoint to “transgender” as “straight” is to “gay.”

This thread certainly goes in a lot of different directions. 😛

Didn’t see a movie just had a conversation with her. She is just so amazing. She accepts me for me. Honestly I don’t know how it can get better. So yes she knows all about my gender and sexuality. Heck she is bi!
