A new movie is coming. Keep your eyes open.

From the column:
WASHINGTON – An invited audience including Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez gathered at the National Geographic Society’s auditorium in Washington Monday night for a screening of “Bella,” an independently produced feature film. No mere movie, it offers hope for the beleaguered anti-abortion movement to reverse the political tide running against it.
…an emotional experience for a stunning exhibition of cinema art that unexpectedly won a Toronto Film Festival award. It is no propaganda film but a dramatic depiction of choices facing an unmarried pregnant woman.
“Bella,” unknown to the general public, has generated excitement and anticipation in conservative Catholic and other anti-abortion circles. The problem is getting the film in movie theaters around the country for its public premiere early next April. That is never easy for an independent film with no box office names, but the problems are magnified when its message runs counter to the social mores of Hollywood.

I’m very interested to see this movie when it comes out :).

Has anyone heard of this?

Arch-Bishop Burke mentioned it at life-site news…

"He also drew attention to positive signs in Hollywood – namely, the actors and professionals involved in the production of the movie Bella. The archbishop praised Bella saying that it is “an outstanding contribution to the new proclamation of the Gospel of Life.”

Late last year, Robert Novak wrote a column about a pro-life movie named “Bella”:

No mere movie, it offers hope for the beleaguered anti-abortion movement to reverse the political tide running against it.
This was the eighth such screening in Washington. Monday night’s audience reflected the reaction in more than 100 showings nationwide: an emotional experience for a stunning exhibition of cinema art that unexpectedly won a Toronto Film Festival award. It is no propaganda film but a dramatic depiction of choices facing an unmarried pregnant woman.

Well techniqually its not a Hollywood movie its not like Sony or Warner Brothers is laying out the cash for it, Its an Indies movie looking for distributor kind like the Passion was a few years ago like Mel Gibson the film makers bankrolled thier own money and got couple friends with deep pockets as investors. Three of these amigos as they call them selves are devout catholics so it promising taht there is more than just Mel Gibson as far making Catholic themed movies. But its not a sign Hollywoods mainstream movie making studios have changed in fact they have not both this and the Passion are indies by Catholic film makers in fact one of the producers was Mel Gibsons partner from icon films. Also judging the for the first time in about three decades a major studio made an obvious Christian film " The Nativity" and it was in a sense a bust compared to the monster hit the “Passion” and its doubtful they make another Christian film for awhile. I think we will have to rely on the indie film makers and you can count Gibson in that category as he is calling his own shots and not the major movie studios for orthodox catholic themed movies.

I just saw a screening of this movie tonight and had to post.

It is definitely the best movie I’ve seen in awhile, and most likely the best I’ll see this year. A truly touching, heartfelt, and thoroughly pro-life message–anyone and everyone should go see it when it is released in theaters this summer or early this fall.

If you’re curious, here’s an article about the film, written for a publication at my college.

I’ve just heard about this movie, I haven’t watched it yet, but several pro life groups and friends have recommended it…a friend and I are trying to get it shown in our city! 🙂

But I feel guilty promoting something I haven’t seen yet…can anybody give me a synopsis, please? Thanks greatly!😃

Check out at Catholic Answers website for an interview with Leo Severino of Metanoia films. You can download the MP3 from their journaled shows.

God Bless,

👍

I thought it hadnt released yet?

They talked about it at the Rosary Bowl here in Los Angeles because the director or producer was one of the speakers at the event.

Not yet…but my friend got a package when they did a screening at her college; it tells how one can rent a theater, order the movie, and promote the showings 🙂 And I think she said it was supposed to come out in August sometime?

I actually saw the Director and main actor speak recently. I’ve heard that it’s a great movie.

It was shown in Ann Arbor, Michigan yesterday. One of the producers was there for the show and stayed in the theater afterward to answer questions about the film. A good synopsis is on the movies website. The film will be released in a few markets in the southwest US on August 15th. There is hope for a wider release and screenings such as the one I was at are encouraged. I do not know how to go about hosting one, but a group called ArborVitae Women’s Center hosted the event in Ann Arbor.

I think I heard that it will be released August 15. They dedicated the movie to Mary. There have been miracles on set and lots of conversions. Spread the word!!!

A movie that I really want to see is "Bella"

In a film set to be released this year and a top award winner at Toronto’s International Film Festival. Directed by Alejandro Monteverde, and written by Monteverde and Patrick Million. “It is expertly made, expertly acted, and profoundly moving” says Russell Shaw in a recent article about the film. He goes onto say, “Along the way the audience enters intimately into these two people’s lives. More than one handkerchief was being dabbed at its owner’s eyes as the screening I attended concluded”. Bella features the actor Eduardo Verastegui who experienced a conversion several years ago and now aims to dedicate his talents to Christ.) One of the other main characters is played by Tammy Blanchard.

Plot: Two people whose lives are changed forever discover that sometimes it takes losing it all to finally appreciate the things that truly matter. Bella is a heartwarming love story that goes much deeper than romance. It is an unforgettable story that celebrates unborn life, family, relationships and our capacity for love in the face of the unexpected.

I cannot wait to see this movie, I saw the trailer a little while back & it was so amazing.

👍

Many prayers :gopray2: for the success of this movie & I will be trying to get others to see it’s beautiful message!!

:blessyou:

Have any of you heard anything about this movie? It is made by three Catholic men who say that they are following Mother Theresa’s mantra" I did n’t come to be succesful; I came to be faithful to God.’

I don’t know anything about it beyond that. There is an article on the movie-to be released August 15th-in this month’s edition of Columbia. That is the Knights of Coumbus magazine.

I really hope that it is good and does well because next they want to do a movie on Blessed Miguel Pro.

The movie is absoultely amazing. It has such a pro-life message, but it isn’t cheesy at all. It’s very well-done and very powerful.

I watched it with a bunch of women and they were all crying. come to think of it, I was crying too.
