MOVIE: "Children of Men"

The best way I can sum up this movie is “Wow”. I thought it was outstanding and a powerful witness for life. The last part of the movie, after the baby was born, was so moving. And I appreciated the contrast of the offshore boat to rescue the young mother and child in the movie to the abortion boats that currently service countries where abortion is illegal. Can you imagine what this world would be like if there were no abortion boats, but instead boats to help and protect pregnant women and babies?
 
All I can say, is I have read most of P.D. James books and no other mystery writer can beat her for truthful development of characters and plot. Wonderful writer.
 
I didn’t care for it. The story (in the film) just seems too incomplete. It never tells why women became infertile and the viewer never finds out if the problem was solved. Plus, the fact that they had to hide the fact that she was pregnant, strict immigration policies or not, was totally unbelievable. It just didn’t sit well with me.
 
Sorry Bataar, but you missed something. Putting aside the fact that movies which explain every last thing are terribly boring, and it would have been unbelievable for them to discover the reason and cure within the time line of the movie, hiding her pregnancy made perfect sense. Did you notice how so many people acted when they discovered she was pregnant or saw the baby? Being in possession of the only fertile woman in the world (to their knowledge) was the ultimate political power. Of course they would try and hide her pregnancy. If it was widely known, she would be fought over like an object (and was anyway, regardless of their efforts).

I own this movie, and think it is one of the finer sci-fi efforts I have seen in years.
 
I loved the movie so much that I read the book. The book was by far way better than the movie. I thought they both were very pro life and it is sad to think of world without children. I really recommend the book to everyone and if you are not a reader the movie is also really good, but not true to the book. (the similarities was the premise - no children.)
