Movie Choice for Group Age 50 & Over?

I am going to show a movie to a group of people who are 50 years of age and over. I need idea’s on what movie I should show them?

I want to avoid anything which would be uncomfortable (sex and language).

I really never go to the movies and really just watch the classics. My boss wants to show them “Million Dollar Baby” but I know their was controversy over this movie by Catholics although I don’t remember the reason. Therefore I don’t want to support this movie.

Can you list what movies I can propose instead? Some other members at work have proposed are …

My boss is leaning towards a current movie they may have never seen but I think I could talk him into something else.

Well, my mom falls in this age group, and we both liked a movie called “Miss Potter”.

What are the interests of these 50+ year olds. As a “forty-something” myself, I imagine that the type of movie they’d like depends more on their interests rather on their age. Just like twenty year olds, fifty year olds are not locked into b&w movies with names like Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart, etc. Are these male or female or both? I know that I lean more toward comedies, action, and adventures or silly things like horror.
 
I fall into this age group and I like movies where good looking men run around and blow things up…

“Million Dollar Baby” is a very sympathetic view of euthanasia. I haven’t seen it, but it I can’t think it would be the kind of movie you want to show. Here is the Catholic Bishops’ review of it:
Dark-edged drama about an ornery old-school trainer and manager (Clint Eastwood) who finds personal redemption in molding a scrappy but determined female boxer (Hilary Swank) into a contender, only to have his efforts implode in tragedy. What starts out as a formulaic Rockyesque fight film takes a disturbingly downbeat turn, becoming a somber meditation on assisted suicide with a morally problematic ending which, despite knockout performances by Eastwood (who also directed), Swank and Morgan Freeman as a grizzled ring rat, will leave Catholic viewers emotionally against the ropes. A guilt-wracked, but ultimately permissive depiction of euthanasia, much bloody boxing violence, some rough and crude language and profanity. O – morally offensive. (PG-13) 2004

Picking a good movie is difficult, because everyone has different tastes. You need to know what the people are interested in. If a movie is mentioned, you could go to the Catholic Bishops website and look it up there and see what they have to say about it. They review just about every movie there is.

Show The Gods Must Be Crazy.

If they’ve seen it (many 50 somethings have), they’ll be delighted to see it again.

If they haven’t seen it, they’ll be delighted.

It’s the story of an African man who finds a pop bottle and walks to the city to return it. I know, that doesn’t sound like much, but I guarantee that the movie is amazing!

Another great move, fantastic movie, that never, ever gets old, is Being There with Peter Sellers. It’s amazing, one the best modern movies ever made. I think ?? Peter Sellers won the Oscar for it, and deservedly so.

How about the old weeper, Ice Castles? The re-make is due out next winter (to coincide with the Winter Olympics). Let everyone enjoy the original again (a real tear-jerker), and then they’ll be ready to watch the re-make next winter.

Finally, MARX BROTHERS movies! Hilarious, especially Duck Soup or Night at the Opera.
 
Have they seen “BELLA”? It’s a good movie, sad… but with a HAPPY, positive ending! This was highly endorsed by EWTN.

Just watched it. Very good. But first choice would be SHL!! Funny with a good message.
