I saw this yesterday after reading rave reviews for it, some saying it is the best movie of the year.

I didnt really get the message though, ending was confusing and sort of open ended.

Curious to hear what others think about this.

How I miss the days when Oscar-winning films were actually worth watching. However did we get from Ben-Hur to this?

Hollyweird is doing all it can to normalize homosexuality

Gone are the days of beautifully done movies like Gone with the Wind, Casablanca and The Wizard of Oz.

Ben-Hur came out in 1959 and won best picture.

Only 10 years later Midnight Cowboy won best picture. It was released in May of 1969, and originally rated X.

2 of 3 of those are remakes. Ben Hur was a remake, too.

I took it to be the opposite, the main guy was ashamed thru out his life because of that one sexual incident with his friend, other kids made fun of him for being gay, if anything this movie was encouraging them to ‘stay in the closet’.

As you correctly observe, the “slide” began around the 1960s. It’s been mostly downhill since then. 😦

As film historians know, Gone With the Wind and Wizard of Oz were greatly indebted to the uncredited production work and actor coaching by George Cukor, one of the most famously gay people in Hollywood at the time. There’s a reason Judy Garland was a gay icon.

Moonlight was wonderful. It’s not my favorite movie of the year but it’s the only one of the nominees with any business winning.
