Movie ratings at the Bishops Conference

Hi,

I look up the US Bishops Conference ratings for movies and am wondering if their ratings on there are morally binding?

I can only give you an informal answer. I would say no, that they are just opinions. I find that they bring up a lot of things that other reviewers don’t, such as when there are misuses of the name of God takes place etc, which is a good feature of the website. However, I think some of the ratings are questionable; some movies that they didn’t class as “offensive”, I think should be. But that’s only my opinion.

Absolutely not. In fact, about three weeks ago they finally got around to removing their review of the Golden Compass. The review that WAS on their site was actually POSITIVE! It was only after MANY MANY people complained that they finally took it down. Since then… I haven’t gone back to the USCCB for their movie reviews. God bless.
