“Walk The Line” was great. Thanks!
🙂

I also want to suggest Across the Universe(rated PG13 has some drug references and slight nudity but a teen can definitely handle it and it sends a good message that love conquers all) it has lots of good beetles songs.
😃

Our family, including our 13 year old daughter greatly enjoy the following, less-mentioned, “secular” movies:
  • It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (we watch it often and still laugh heartily)
  • The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (“Atta boy, Luther!”)
  • That Thing You Do (family friendly story about a pop group’s rise to fame)
  • Iron Giant
  • My Neighbor Totoro
  • The Point
Classic TV Series available on DVD:
  • Perry Mason (hundreds of good episodes available of the original '57-'66 series)
  • Hazel (I cannot recommend this highly enough. I never saw it as a kid during its initial run. Shirley Booth is amazing.)
  • The Monkees (brainless fun)
  • Get Smart (ditto)
  • Lost In Space (it’s a hoot!)
  • Green Acres
We also enjoy slightly older British tv series:
  • The Sherlock Holmes series (with Jeremy Bret. Beware some of the later episodes)
  • The Miss Marple series (with Joan Hickson)
  • The Poirot Series (with David Suchet. Avoid the later seasons. They’ve been “juiced up” with sexual content. Sad.)

“Young at Heart”. It is an independently made movie, released last summer, a little like a documentary, but very entertaining and sweet. It’s about a group of senior citizens who sing popular music. I checked it out from the library thinking my husband and I would watch it, then our kids (10-19) started watching it, and we all loved it. It shows older folks in a very positive light, very respectful of the elderly. I highly recommend it!

I’d forgotten all about “The Ghost & Mr. Chicken.” Thanks so much!🙂

It’s hard to find worthwhile movies I can watch with my(teenage) kids.
Any recommendations? We’ve pretty much seen all the classics & newer films are generally problematic if you’re trying to avoid nudity, etc.
Last good movie we rented from Netflix was"James Goes To Jerusalem." Very good Israeli film. Also enjoyed “The Chorus”(French film.)
Sure appreciate any recommendations for our Netflix list. Thanks! 🙂
There are quite a few movies of which I own, that are very child/ friendly:

The Inn of the Sixth Happiness (with Ingrid Bergman)
Lilies of the Field (with Sidney Poitier)
Brother Sun, Sister Moon (a 70’s adaptation of St Francis’s life)
The Miracle of Fatima
San Francisco (with Clark Gable)
any movie based on Jane Austen, Elizabeth Gaskell, and Charles Dickens (BBC or PBS version) is pretty good. I own Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion, North and South, Wives and Daughters, and Cranford.
The Scarlet Pimpernel (the 80’s adaptation with Jany Seymour)
The Quiet Man (with John Wayne, I loved it)
The Robe (with Richard Burton) A story about a roman soldier who wins the robe Jesus wore right before his crucifixion.
The Miracle of Marcellino
The Crucible (with Daniel Day Lewis and Winona Ryder) It’s about the Salem Witch Hunts.

For more recent movies:

Penelope (with Christina Ricci)
Star Dust (although there is some violence, it is not explicit) It’s a fantasy film with Claire Danes, Robert DeNiro and Michelle Pfeifer.
Willow (another fantasy film)

For T.V. series, you could rent:

Pushing Daisies (although there is an occasional swear word)
