Saw this yesterday for the first time, had no idea what it was about before watching, but it ended up being a pretty good movie, no sex, some language, lots of shooting.

the basic overview is about the CIAs role in the illegal drug trade, one quote from Josh Brolin in the movie sums it up…" Until the time you can convince 20% of the population to stop smoking/ snorting/ using drugs, there needs to be some kind of control over the industry, by a governing body"…he implies this is the CIAs role.

I liked the way it was done, from the perspective of FBI agent who is getting a look at all this for the first time, coming to grips that the Govt is directly involved, and/or doing illegal things to maintain this control.

Anyone else see it?

yes I watched it. I like Josh Brolin as an actor and I also like Benicio Del Toro. However, I wonder what Benicio is like in real life because his characters are so dark. The movie showed how intense and scary the drug business is. I can’t imagine what it would be like to live in those Mexican towns where the drug cartels are fighting each other or the cops. To see dead bodies everywhere would be terrible. I would not want anyone I loved to be fighting the war on drugs. I would be afraid everytime they left the house.
There was a family of 5 executed many years ago about 3 miles from my house. Two were small children under the age of 6. It was drug related. To this day they have not apprehended those responsible. That was in the 90’s before things got really bad. A very bad business.

Was this released in theaters? I’ve seen ads for it here and there but don’t remember it having a mainstream theater release.

Not my kind of movie probably but it looks like it has a good cast.

I think it was released in the fall.

All I can say is, this is bad. Really bad. Not the acting or storytelling per se, but the content. Shootouts are one thing, but seeing the dead, and watching what amounted to an execution, was too much. This may be judged realistic but it is not entertainment.
