I think she could carry a tune pretty well too, even if Lucy Ricardo was tone deaf.

She sang with Desi in The Long Long Trailer, she sounded fine, unless it was dubbed over with another singer.

I always thought Eleanor Parker was really underrated, as far as actresses go.

Also adore Katharine Hepburn & Spencer Tracy together. And Doris Day & Rock Hudson!

Just rewatched an old favorite of mine - ‘In The Heat Of The Night’. Got a twofer of great actors in Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger …

Yes! And two other old favorites from the same director, Norman Jewison: The Russians Are Coming and Jesus Christ Superstar.

“Oh Moses, Moses, you stubborn, splendid adorable fool!”

(I checked, but that line isn’t actually in the Bible 🤔)

yes, the makers of the film used a lot of poetic license.

It still contained well done visual conveyances of what happened
in Biblical history.

you don’t have to like the film. But I’m glad my mom had this film
as a family tradition to watch in the almost yearly broadcast.
It helped me be in awe of God, to surrender to God seeking me.
And it helped many others.
Did you ever see the mini-series Jesus of Nazareth?
I mostly like it. But it contains some horrible ‘hollywoodized’ conveyances.
For example, Joseph of Aremethia saying with a smile on his face something
like Jesus said sins of the flesh aren’t as bad as others — that is anathema!
Jesus Christ never said such a thing!

But other things like the poetic license of Simon-Peter not wanting to join
Jesus Christ dining with Matthew; repenting at the parable of the prodigal son;
I find to be well done and poignant.

happy Advent.

It’s interesting how the special effects over the years have gone from re-creating natural phenomena like wars, earthquakes, floods, etc to almost entirely a bunch of complete sci-fi and fantasy stuff. Pretty much parallels my declining interest in new movies. Fantasy bores me and so does most (not all) sci-fi.

#metoo. One of the few sci-fi movies I can truly say I like is the original (1951) version of The Day the Earth Stood Still. I went to see the remake when it came out in 2008. It was pitiful. Even the special effects were done better in the original.

This will be lengthy. I am a young man, but I’m a giant fan of classic films, and quite frankly, TCM and EWTN are my TV channels of choice. I tend to favor actresses more for some reason or another so this list will be heavy on that side. Also decided to limit to people who are either gone, retired, or had the majority of their material in the past. None who still work frequently, so no Maggie Smith say, even though she’s absolutely wonderful. Julie Andrews though counts because most of her films were from the 60s-80s, and recent appearances are infrequent.

I watched Becket last night. Great movie about St. Thomas Becket, starring Richard Burton and Peter O’Toole. It’s on Amazon Prime.
