Interesting film. Glad I didn’t pay money to see it in the theater, but glad I watched it none the less. It’s from the same people who brought us “Soul Surfer” and “Courageous”. It is, in a word, about the Rapture.
Having sat through my share of Rapture-based movies (shown free at the Student Union by some campus religious group or another, on weekend nights when there was literally nothing else to do before going out to hit the bars), I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn’t where all the Christians disappear like other movies portray. Instead, the Raptured just die. The reasoning being that G_D doesn’t need the bodies, so He just takes the souls. Naturally, with all the security cameras and iPhones around there is all this video footage of rooms full of people falling dead on the floor. One shot is of a pee-wee basketball game where all the children suddenly die, and the MSM call it “a mystery illness called Sudden Death Syndrome.”
The story focuses on a couple that have JUST gotten married, when suddenly, during the reception, all these guests (including the bride’s parents) drop dead, there are earthquakes, and fire and brimstone falling from the sky (as well as jets, helicopters, etc.) As one of the director’s comments put it, these people have the WORST HONEYMOON EVER!
The couple and their friends try to find a safer place than the hotel where the wedding and reception were being held. They seek shelter at a library when the giant hailstones start falling, and the bride wiggs out. She leaves the group and searches for a book that will prove she knows what she’s talking about when she says it’s the Rapture. When she finds the “Religious Studies” section, all the books have fallen on the floor and all you can see are all these New Age titles. She FINALLY finds a bible and starts looking in the index at the end, saying, “It’s not here!” (I.e., the Rapture isn’t listed in the Bible.) At that point I said to the TV, “That’s what Catholics have been saying for years, honey!”
In the end, they don’t talk about “accepting Jesus as your personal savior”. Instead, the message is for people to get off the fence, stop this “I’m not religious but I’m spiritual” cr*p, and BELIEVE IN GOD!
It’s being marketed as “Horror” which may have drawn a few people into the theaters. Just wondering if anyone else has seen it and if you thought it was OK
