Who was the first James Bond? I always thought it was Sean Connery but was informed today that it was actually Barry Nelson, who played the role on television in the late 1950’s.

Now your turn.

Q stands for Quartermaster (i.e the person providing weapons and equipment to the M16 agents).

Major Boothroyd was the real name of the original Q. This is confirmed in The Spy who loved me (1977) when Anya Amasova addresses Q as Major Boothroyd in one scene.

The original Q/Major Boothroyd (played by Desmond Llewellyn) appeared for the first time in From Russia With Love (1962) and his last appearance was in the World is Not Enough (1999).

Ian Fleming named Q after a Scottish weapons expert who recommended that Bond should use the Walther PPK as his sidearm (originally Bond used a Beretta Jetfire 25.ACP with a skeletonised hammer, which Boothroyd was of the opinion did not have sufficient stopping power).

I’m not sure how well know this is. Sophia Loren’s sister married the son of Benito Mussolini. That son had no political aspirations, he was a pianist.

John Wayne’s daughter was one of the children at the horse race in “The Quiet Man.”
And Maureen O’ Hara was ever so gorgeous in that movie after just having had a baby!

In the Italian translation of Star Wars, Darth Vader is called Lord Fener. The reason being that Vader sounded too close to the Italian word for toilet. 😊

Very cool info! I love that movie. It might possibly be my number one favorite.

In the movie American Graffiti, Harrison Ford (driving the black 55 Chevy) wears a cowboy hat to cover the fact that he had long hair, not the style for that era movie (crew cut) because he was afraid of missing future acting opportunities because of the short hair.

And, as a bonus, the 55 Chevy Harrison Ford drove was one of 3 used in the movie Two Lane Black Top driven by James Taylor and Dennis Wilson. Yes, that James Taylor and Yes, that Beach Boy!

Also love The Quiet Man. Our younger daughter’s name is Mary Kate. 😉 We visited many of the places where it was filmed several years ago.

Christopher Lee turned down the role of Dr. Loomis in Halloween.

One of the James Bond actors used to sell cars. Didn’t like acting and went back to it.

Abbott and Costello became a comedy team when one night, Lou Costello’s straight man did not show for their vaudeville performance. Bud Abbott was in the ticket booth and Costello asked him to take his partner’s place.
