Sounds good, for a Christian theme, I understand the subject of the movie forgave his captors face-to-face. He spent time in a Japanese Prison Camp in World War II. More to add on later I’m sure.

The book was very good. I’d be interested in seeing the movie, too, though it’d be really hard to watch some of the scenes if they depict them as in the book.

I am very interested in seeing this movie. Hopefully it will come to the local theater while I have time to see it.

The book is excellent. Louis Zamperini was a true hero, as well as a Christian role model.

The book “Unbroken” is such a great read, one of my all time favorites. I’m not overly keen to see the movie because they so rarely do the book justice. It’s hard to watch the movie after you’ve read the book when they seem to be sacrificing the most touching parts in order to capitalize on the “action”.

As an example, I recently saw “A Captain’s Duty”; naturally the movie couldn’t come close to conveying how much suffering Capt. Phillips actually endured or the intensity of the cat and mouse game his crew played with the Somali pirates, but the real shame IMO was that they left out the ordeal his family was going through back home.

Michael Medved seemed to say the movie is like 4 different movies.
  1. Zamperini flying his planes, very good bombing effects, he is shot down in WWII.
  2. He crashed and was in a raft in the ocean for many days, to this Medved said, it’s a part of the story but we’ve seen this movie before meaning, someone stranded at sea.
  3. Apparently the Japanese get him and he is in prison camp. This was the most difficult part it seems.
  4. I would suppose part IV, part 4 is the post-war era.
He gave the movie a so-so rating. We will see. At some point, I’d like to see it.

I will have to try to read the book though.

I’ll probably read the book. Skipping the movie though because Angelina Jolie is the director.

“If I can take it I can make it.” Louis Zamperini

Very Victor Frankl, psychiatrist, holocaust survivor and author of MAN’S SEARCH FOR MEANING.

It sounds like all kinds of persons corroborated for the movie, apparently members of Mr. Zamperini’s family if not the man himself.

Great Movie! As a devout Catholic, I must say this movie was amazing. Even though Louie Zamperini was not a practicing Catholic and eventually did convert to Christianity, the faith that sustained him throughout his ordeals was the faith he inherited from his Catholic Parents. He did not convert to Christianity until after he met his wife years later. The movie makes it clear that his faith in God was what helped him, not his religious affiliation. It also does not go into his conversion story. It actually opens up with a beautiful homily about forgiveness given by a priest. Thank you God for you work in mysterious ways. 👍👍

Im going to see this movie, very excited, it looks pretty good from what Ive seen.

I am interested to know what Mr.Zamperini did for a living after the war though, as to have Angelia Jolie/ Brad Pitt as neighbors, he had to be pretty successful in whatever he went into…Anyone know?

So we Catholics aren’t Christian?

I thought the movie was very and good and very well done. Christianity was also address in a positive inspiring way which is why I suspect the movie hasn’t received the general overall acclaim it should. I found it a bit violent and brutal though and certainly not for kid under preteen age at the very least. It reminded me a lot of the Passion. Hard to sit through but still good. Maybe because I was bullied quite a bit as a kid it’s very hard to sit through .

He founded Victory Boys Camp and became a Christian inspirational speaker with the help of Billy Graham.

Interesting read:

Japanese Prison Guard Who TorturedUnbroken Hero Zamperini Was Once Interviewed by 60 Minutes

As Angelina Jolie‘s latest directorial project,Unbroken, continues to generate buzz for its stunning portrayal of WWII hero and prisoner of war Louis Zamperini, here’s a fascinating little flashback: Back in the late ’90s, 60 Minutesactually interviewed Zamperini’s torturer, Japanese Army Sergeant Mutsuhiro Watanabe.

If there is something offensive in comments I apologize. I read this article a few days ago but did not check out the whole site again before posting.)

Really? The consensus among both Catholic and “secular” critics (who rarely seem be on same the page) is that there’s very little faith portrayed in the movie and, furthermore, if you leave the movie early - before the closing credits - you don’t even get any idea of the role faith played in his story. Have people forgotten the scene where he’s crushing on a girl at church? Or when he makes fun of a fellow soldier’s praying? That’s a positive portrayal of faith? Really? 🤷 The only thing I kept thinking of during the stranded-at-sea scenes was how better and much more inspiring “Life of Pi” was and kept waiting for the that movie’s tiger to show up.

I made the mistake of seeing the movie - mind-numbingly boring and predictable - yes, very predictable - “don’t look at me!” “look at me!” - that got tedious really quick - not to mention the “flashback” structure was wholly unnecessary and a little confusing, skipping back and forth and back and forth. The movie didn’t get any Golden Globe nominations and won’t be getting any Oscar nominations, either. This should have been a documentary - now that would have been awesome. As a scripted adaptation, it’s one of the worst movies I saw in 2014. Decent Film Guide’s “C+” grade was accurate and more than a little generous.
