I recently watched the south park pandemic special, the show takes the lord’s name in vain a lot. Is it a sin to watch it and do I need to go to confession for this?

How old are you? Are you mature enough to watch something and not be tempted to imitate it?

I am old enough to watch the content in the show and I am able to watch it without being tempted to do something.

I personally wouldn’t be comfortable watching a movie where they took the Lord’s name in vain through the whole program. If it was maybe a couple of times in the middle of an otherwise generally okay movie, then I could overlook it. (I’m thinking of the movie version of “1776” where one character does repeatedly invoke the Lord’s name, but the movie is otherwise pretty family-friendly and not blasphemous.)

Other people may have different comfort levels. I know there are a lot of people who like South Park although I never had any use for it. I don’t think my age group was the target audience for it and I frankly have never understood the appeal, but obviously it has a following. I personally consider it a needlessly irreverent show, but YMMV.

The fact that you posted a thread about it here asking the question suggests to me that you aren’t totally comfortable with having sat through a show that “takes the lord’s name in vain” a lot, even if you don’t plan on imitating the extreme behaviors of South Park characters. So you may want to think about this a little bit more in the context of your own examination of conscience.

This is a question you should ask your confessor. And perhaps stop watching stuff that isn’t wholesome.
