Anyone heard of this movie por seen it? What do you think about it? Appropriate for Catholic High school?

I’ve heard of it, and seen a scene or two on YouTube. I couldn’t say if it’s appropriate for a catholic high school. It paints a fairly dark picture of Christian indoctrination of children, albeit not Catholic Christian. It smacks of the muslim indoctrination of children we’ve seen on television, teaching children to die as soldiers for their faith. I was fairly creeped out by what I saw on YouTube, and don’t intend on watching the whole movie.

I enjoyed it. I even watched a second time, with the director’s commentary.

The most annoying part for me was the final deleted scene, with Ted Haggard conversing with Catholic camera man.

I’m all for teaching children to be strong in their faith. But this movie, for some reason, just wierded me out, to a disturbing level. I haven’t seen the whole thing, but I’ve seen enough clips for me to be very, very glad my kids will be Catholic.

i saw it, it’s very strange. The people in it are anti-Catholic Protestants 😦

Jesus Camp won’t be soming to a theater near you - it’s already out on DVD. It didn’t play in the Bible Belt - the only place I know here in Kansas that ran it was Liberty Hall Theater in Lawrence, near the KU campus.

Amyway, we rented it from Netflix, and it is scarey! The adults are fanatical fundys, and I just feel sorry for the kids. I would recommend watching it - a fascinating, yet frightening film.

I would seriously question how authentic the movie is at depicting real Bible-Christians. I am certain that the producers had an agenda - making them look like wackos? If they did one about the Catholic Church I am certain they could piece togther this & that, taken out of context and make us look pretty nutty also. If fact, they have done movies about Priests to make it seem like every Priest is a pervert. I wouldn’t support those movies that slam us - so I’m not going to talk up movies that slam them either.

The foilks in the movie are indeed “real Bible-Christians”. Their Church is in Missouri, about an hour’s drive from where I live. The producers did not have to make them look like whackos - they do that all on their own.

Oh I don’t doubt they could be whackos… I guess my point though is that they are my brothers & sisters in Christ. (well, maybe my cousins? 😉 ) And although I’d debate them up & down if they came to the forums … I don’t like the idea of these producers putting them out there for all the world to laugh at and say, “Wow… Christians… they are so whacked!” Which is just what everyone who isn’t a Christian would say if they watched the movie. So in the end, who does it hurt? All of us… and most importantly, the LORD we both love.

What they’re doing to these children is wrong, and I have a strong suspicion that many of the kids in that program will become decidedly anti-christian once they grow up and there’s a credibility gap as big as the grand canyon between themselves and their parents.

In my opinion, anything that encourages people not to act this way will ultimately be helpful to the faith.

This speaks to the point I think a couple of other people were trying to make. What you say may be true IF the movie accurately portrays these people and their “Jesus Camp.”

I haven’t seen the movie and I don’t know these people, but I do know that most of the people producing movies have a very left-wing agenda, and I wouldn’t trust anything they say. Hollywood is equally capable of making a movie that makes Catholics look like whackos, and I would hate for half the country to watch it and think they now know all about Catholics and have reason to hate, fear, and judge us.

I wouyld recommend you actually watch the movie before you pass judgement on the producers’ “agenda”.

I’ve actually seen the movie just a couple of weeks ago. I watched it after I saw an interview on t.v. with the lady who runs the camp. She watched the film and thought it protrayed her and her group pretty accurately. So I figured it might be worth seeing.

I gotta say I liked the kids and even some of their parents. Did wonder why the one boy had a mullet (sorry just can’t stand mullets :😛 ) . However, the camp itself just scared me completely. I don’t disagree with some of the minister’s statements about us not educating our children in their religion. But the camp was just freaky. I know someone will jump up and down and do some screaming, but it reminded me of the old nazis rallies that Hitler led. The pastor was able to reach the kids, but it almost seemed more like mass hysteria then the kids actually being touched by the holy spirit. Like the saw the kids next to them speaking in tongues, crying, or having seizure like symptoms so they have to have them too.

Just my two cents :twocents:
historybrat

The protestant preacher who appeared in the show was complaining against gays and then it was found out later that he was gay himself…

And a major republican player who met regulary with Bush as well
lol:p

I find when people are very angery about something or fire and brimstone on a subject it usually turns out that the person is probably hiding something that is a lot closer to home that they would prefer

I have no desire to see the movie. I stand by what I said, that Hollywood producers are quite capable of portraying anybody in any light they choose. That there tends to be a very left-wing worldview in Hollywood is not based on this movie. It’s based on so much of what they’ve already produced and on their own political activity.

I think my point was really that I have no desire to pass judgment on the people portrayed in the movie.

It doesn’t appear that you don’t have a problem “passing judgement” on the film industry. though.

I am sorry but how can you rate a film bad or left wing without seeing it. You should experience things for yourself, the make up your mind, don’t let other people make your mind up for you, because when you let that happen you miss out on life. I watch things that i probably wouldn’t like before seeing them and i am usually surprised 🙂
