So I am 17 and I want to watch a movie. For the purpose of watching and enjoying the film. But it has a sex scene. If I skip it when I comes up is it still a sin? And would it be considered a sin if when it pops I see like 2 secs of it before I can skip it fast enough. PLEASE HELP. If it’s a sin I would not even watch it. I’ve struggled with this in the past and want to know the best way of aviding sin.

Okay I did not know where the line is if by accident I saw it not realizing it would come up before I could skip it

I am 20YO, I always check if a movie had nudity before watching it on the parental guide on IMbd. If it does, I don’t watch it. It is the near-occasion of sin, not respectful to women (usually it female nudity not male), can lead to lust, and just isn’t needed in any movie. Sex scenes with no nudity I still don’t watch and extensive kissing scenes I fast forward through at a minimum.

Jesus says if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. So yes, you should fast forward through extensive sex scenes but if it’s nudity, don’t even watch the movie in my opinion. It isn’t a sin if you didn’t know the movie had nudity. But since you CAN check and see if there is nudity before seeing the movie like I do, you have a bit of a duty to do so or else you kind of “got what you asked for” and are more culpable.

Nothing confession can’t forgive though 🙂

I watched the movie Dumb and Dumber - hated it.
I didn’t find it funny or anywhere near being enlightening.
But I was there with 7 others - living room - fireplace -
I had to deal with it.

Now, for me, some scenes - truly bothered - my spirit.
That’s what I keep an eye on.
I do NOT want to trouble or grieve my spirit within.
Other people - it may not offend - who knows …

Talk to your parents about appropriate movie watching, not strangers on the internet.

There is an awful lot of pop culture that is just trashy. If you’re going to watch much of it, your spirit becomes a bit deadened. I don’t think that’s by accident. IMHO

Also, it helps to keep this all in perspective. If I had kids, the show I’d least want them to watch would be “The View.” Catty women arguing with each other over subjects they don’t understand and don’t wish to understand is to me like spiritual death.

Definitely avoid pornography, gratuitous sex scenes (meaning they add nothing to the plot), nudity. But also avoid other soul-destroying stuff, anything to do with the occult and new age for instance.

You are going to make a mistake now and then. Yes, ask your parents. But any good Catholic can help you pick a movie.

Thanks for the info. I’m not gonna watch it. I can always find another on
