Movies with sexual scenes

I just watched some ****** movie with aliens and it contained some sexual scenes. I was wondering is it a sin a too these scenes? They were part of the movies and I didn’t know they will be in the movie and they were brief but there was some nudes. Generally is it a sin to watch a movie if you know it will contain some sexual scenes.?

Can someone explain what this thread has to do with Liturgy & Sacraments? One would think it belongs in Popular Media or some other place.

I am not absolutely certain but I believe that it’s only a sin to watch those scenes if it makes you feel lustful.

I know I see media a lot differently now that I’m back to Christ. It’s amazing how pervasive sexuality is in the media. If you even look at the vast majority of photos of celebrities, they try to give this heated look.

You can’t control everything you see. You can only try to control yourself.

My sister loves that movie. I love the plot but I don’t like to watch it. I’ve seen the others, Species 2, Species 3, etc. They just get more and more sexual.

I don’t recommend it. LOL

The last time I was surprised by a sex scene in a movie; I heard the ticket agent say the movie was pg-13 and mindlessly went in.
Well, the sex scene in that movie was torrid and I felt distressed.
So now I treat myself as if I were a child. I check the ratings for myself. On t.v., I set parental guidelines for myself. It helps.

Here is how it all works…on the outside of the movie, it will 99% of the time say if there is nudity. Just don’t rent those movies. Real simple.

Hi cristyd.

The answer to your question actually goes deeper than the basic query. It has to do with lifestyle. What is your objective in life? We are called to be holy. The living of our life starts from there, where it leads to holiness and where it does not. I do not mean to preach. I did work with youth before and this is the question I often ask them – Do you stand up for Jesus?

Too many of the things today do not stand up for Jesus; in fact they stand for things away from him, namely the Evil one. Modern movie is one of them. I would say, do not watch them; be different. This sounds so radical especially when we are bombarded by the secular entertainment that sometimes we cannot differentiate which is appropriate and which is not.

Most of the Hollywood movies cloud our mind against what is holy. They have different objective and ideal and even religion. When we see illegal sex and divorces so freely depicted and as part of the story line, it is as if they are normal. But no, they are not. Seeing them has no purpose in making us holy or purifying our mind.

To answer your question specifically, no it is not a sin if there is a sex scene in the movie. However in the first place you should have studied the movie first for its rating. It is a sin however to intentionally watch pornography; a sin often times very difficult to confess. The problem is, it is so prevalent; it truly clouds our better judgment.
