Lilies of the Field (with Sidney Poitier)Can any of you recommend a good Catholic movie that would be interesting for high school students? thanks!!!
True, but all the same, I wouldn’t say that the film endorses cursing any more than it endorses violence despite there being violence in the film. While I think Man of all Seasons, with Orson Welles, is nice I cannot get over the several instances of God’s name in vain by Thomas’s Friend… I’m not sure why they would ever do that in a religious based movie and for that reason I would not recommend it.
I have shown movies from the 1930’s and had my public high school students enjoy them. I’m sure in the right setting they really could enjoy Bing Crosby. It wouldn’t be something they were in danger of seeing over again. When I pull some movie that they have never heard of, I don’t get the groans about “oh I’ve already seen this.”Personally, I LOVE those Bing Crosby movies mentioned but wonder if high schoolers would enjoy them…
I’ve seen Juno, but not Bella. I’ll make sure to watch that one soon as I’ve read so many great reviews on it, including from holy priests.Bella is also probably brilliant for teenagers. To make it doubly influential, compare and contrast it with Juno.
