Oh my goodness! There are so many replies! I suppose I should give you some more background information! ^^

S and I met 3 years ago, just after he finished culinary school. He knows he wants to marry me (he’s already purchased the ring, and we’ve been chewing our lip over which church to marry in, the one I grew up in or the one he did.) He hasn’t actually, ‘gotten down on one knee’ and asked yet, because he wants to have a ‘plan’ in place to present to his mother when he does.

For a bit of background, it is totally his mother. His father loves me, and thinks I’m awesome, and his mom tells everyone that I’m perfect for him, but has encouraged him to wait to get married. He told her over Christmas that he’s going to marry me, and the waiting is over. He has no qualms standing up to his parents, he just would prefer not to get into an argument with them over something that should be happy.

We honestly hadn’t considered having me move into his apartment while he moved back home. I will definitely have him speak to his parents about that.

Some background on his relationship with his parents: He is the oldest of 8 kids. His mom had a lot of trouble having a child, until she adopted him, then she had many more. She is very close to him, and his sister says that she’s just loathe to give him up. I don’t know everything, though.

I hope that Jenn’s solution works for you all.
I wish you and your fiancé the very best!
May God bless you both.

It sounds like you’ve got yourself a good guy and his family will be loving and supportive of your future husband and you. Given the fact that you have a lack of closeness with your own family, this is invaluable! Frankly, even if you were only living seperatly our of respect for his parents wishes, I’d say you were doing the prudent thing. (Though that doesn’t seem to be the case.)
