Your post is assuming that sex and drugs are rampant only at college. This is false. Sex and drugs are rampant everywhere in our American culture and glamorized in every form of media available to us. Oh and in case you are not aware, sex and drugs have infiltrated not just our colleges, but high schools, middle schools and even elementary schools - heck even our playgrounds are a breeding ground for these lifestyles. Dialoguing with our children about drugs and sex and the consequences of participating in those 2 lifestyles is what we need to be doing - not isolation. If you loved your daughter you wouldn ot send her away at college where sex and drugs are rampant.
I will not continue this debate.
What the world needs more of are young adults like confusedgirl with strong beliefs in walking in the path of the Gospel and being obedient to God’s will. If we isolate the ones we have at home and never let them venture past the front door then those on a path of destruction and living the culture of death will never know there is another path to take called the culture of life that young adults like confusedgirl are being called by God to be a witness too and not behind the doors of home to accommodate her mother’s needs.
The point of rearing children is to bring them up to become active participants in their communities and make a difference in the world whether the contribution is small or great.
