If anyone can get a copy of The Life of Benedict XV by Walter H Peters, there is a photograph of His Holiness Pope Benedict XV(I am talking about the previous Pope Benedict) wearing the winter Mozetta and Camauro.
 
Finally…this is probably the first page on the internet ever to talk about what His Holiness is wearing and not mention Gucci or Prada…😃

I prefer to think that Santa Claus dresses like the Pope, not the other way around. 😉
 
I saw him on TV waving while dressed as Santa Claus?

I am perplexed as to why he would do this? My volume was turned down, and by the time I was able to turn it up, it went to another news artice.

Anyone have any insight?
 
The little hat he was wearing is called a ‘camauro’. Although it does look like an abbreviated santa claus hat.

Reuters has a story on it. 🙂

I’m forgetting the name of the red cloak, but if I recall; both the camauro and cloak were worn often by Popes of medieval times to stay warm.

The mozzetta(which is the tyitle of the linked thread) is the name of the shoulder cape produced two weeks ago. The link on the camuro was placed further down since some posters had mentioned it.

The pope was wearinbg the camauro (the hat) with a tabarro (the orange-red cape) and a grecca (the long white coat). Of course, as CatholicCid says, the camuro is supposed to be worn with the mozzetta (shoulder cape not worn). But hey, I’m not complaining- it must be pretty chilly for the pope, at his age.
 
I think it’s all kind of neat. The pope humbles himself by wearing hand-me-downs from previous popes!

Hand me downs? I read somewhere (Rocco’s Whispers in the Loggia I think) that the camauro was made in 3 hours. Which explains its out of the ordinary shape and extra fur. 😃

We see he has worked on improving the shape. (oops, royal pronoun for use on the tiara thread only). A definite improvement in appearance.I also see its matching his winter mozzetta better. Maybe we’ll see him wearing both soon. :gopray2:

He looks cute as all get out and as they were gifts might have been ordered from two different places. As Marjorie Weeke of VIS is quoted as sayng about the pope: “He doesn’t know Prada from schmada”. Loved it.

We hope no one ever describes Us as “cute as all get out” especially when We are wearing Our ceromonial beehive. :nope:

Don’t know whether a mozetta helps in the freezing cold. Though strictly speaking that would be most appropriate.

Anyone with a beehive can’t be “cute” — but in a camauro, yep he’s cute all right. Thank heaven women can’t be ordained and elevated…we’d have all pastels and English rose prints.
