I’m close friends with this guy that I’m coming to like and wanting to get get to know more. We’ve hung out a bit in groups and a few times alone. We do weekly mass together early morning before going to our separate high schools.

Spring break we went on a walk around a lake and I brought my mo3 player along. It’s an awesome MP3 and I’ve had it for 8 years and it still works well. He only has his phone and found mine kind of cool that it works even after being dropped in the snow. He also mentioned having something like that would be nic.

Still, would it be strange getting him one? I’m not sure what he has already for music (CDs and iTunes etc) I’ve thought about putting some songs on there as well so it isn’t empty. We both like Christian music so finding songs wouldn’t be an issue. Unless you think it’d be rude to open the packaging and putting some songs on?

If you think he would like it, then get him one. I’m sure he’ll appreciate it if you put songs on it for him as well, doing so wouldn’t be rude at all. If someone got me an MP3 player, I’d be pretty excited.

I think that’s actually a great gift idea–I just would be concerned that he might be overwhelmed by the generosity of it. Giving too expensive a gift can be awkward for the recipient.

Maybe wait until his birthday?

Yep – wait for his birthday.

It’s for his birthday This Sunday :rotfl: I guess I forgot to mention that

It’s a coby MP3 and range from 20-30 bucks. Depending on where you get it. Got it black you can find a few on Amazon and eBay but they have been discontinued by the manufacturer but I have another one on me from buying in bulk a few years back during Black Friday so it only cost me like $10

Sounds perfect.

Just FYI: Most cell phones already have mp3 players already installed with the phone’s system settings. ‘Stand-alone’ mp3 players, while not necessarily obsolete, aren’t as common as they used to be.

Giving the gift gives the giver pleasure,
just as the Father loves giving us gifts
b/c it brings HIM pleasure!!

Please feel free to make me as awkward as possible…lol 😃

I’m sure he’ll love the gift.

My rule for my kids - be it friends or dating - is nothing over $20 should be given or received, so a $20 - $30 birthday gift sounds good to me. I wouldn’t go beyond that - wouldn’t add music, etc. - let him do that. Your gift would be the player which is right around the upper level of gifting in my book for this situation - so leave it at that.

(Just remember - this along with any other advice you get on the internet is only worth what you pay for it!! LOL!)

And, imho, a stand-alone MP3 player is an awesome thing. Why lug a phone around all the time? (I know people do, but I also know they are often the same ones who don’t understand how to unplug 😃 ) They are usually quite light, quite portable, and don’t carry your entire “life” on them if lost or damaged 👍

I also like $20-30 as the upper limit for individual gifts among young adults–that being roughly the cost of a hardback book these days.

I think I’d bend on the songs, though–even just five of them will give the gift a little more personality and won’t cost a lot.

perhaps not on the songs. I just a bought a couple for myself on Amazon that I was just going to put on there but I guess I shouldn’t since I’m not paying additionally for them.

I’m not sure I’ll do that anymore anyways. I may just find something else instead for him.

A gift is only worth what considerations
you put into it, to my mind, you have in-
vested a LOT into the gift!!
