The guy who asked the idiotic question, “Is it illegal (for a US Army Major) to call Al-Qaeda?”As difficult as watching that video was, I do think Matthews brings up a valid question. And while I don’t think that Bishop needs to give a number of years, we as prolifers need to address the issue of legal punishment. I also find that many pro-lifers only think that women who have abortions should be punished, and are rightly, criticized for it. This implies that you think women are children and undermines the claim that abortion is murder. This is something pro-lifers need to wrestle with?

I said that Matthews deserved to have his nose punched, and I imagine that if his grandfather were alive, he would do the job. For him–a Catholic-- to attack the bishop’s position as he did was far worse than Joe Miller’s outburst against Mr. Obama. A breach of decorum. Beyond that Matthews as obviously absorbed the petty anti-clericalism of his class, his pretense that he is the bishop’s equal, even on matters dealing with the relation of morality and law. I would never treat McCarrick with this sort of disrespect, even though I have a low of him and certainly of his political views. And I would not dream of attacking Matthews physically, because he is one of those guys who has never thrown a punch in his life. It would be illegal and I would probably kills him. I think he put Bishop Thomas Tobin on the spot by asking tough questions and demanding answers; but then again if you look at his track record, he has a habit of doing that with almost every guest on his show.
Interestingly, Matthews, a Catholic referring to the Bishop as “Your Excellency" was obviously a faux pax; I’d think he’d know how to properly address the Bishop.
Religious figures depending on how you view them, are in the public light as a rule and as such are subject to criticisim and praise. I don’t think he was too concerned about appearing on the Chris Matthews Show, he can take care of himself as it was obvious if you saw the program.
As far as “having his nose punched”, i’m assuming you mean figuratively, that accomplishes nothing. If your really offended by what you saw, don’t waste your time writing a letter, rather the best weapon is to not watch the show at all.
