Real honesty is adimitting that different races have problems interacting with each other. Real honesty is admitting that we don’t always appreciate our God-given differences.
Don’t know about you, but I think it’s important for developing self-image of little black girls to know that people can’t keep repeatedly insulting the women they’re going to become and not pay a price. Now we just have to make sure that all such offendors pay the price.
Comedy is honesty, you say; so are those players really “hos” and do you really consider that there’s something wrong with black hair? Do you know how many racists enjoyed watching Mohammed Ali box? They just wouldn’t sit in the same restaurant with him afterwards, that’s all…some honesty.

Did you actually watch the show? I did (in part) and all I saw was an attempt to deal with the deeper problem and address the charges of double standards in the black community with regard to rap music. I would have thought that would have been the appropriate response.
Honestly, it seems to me that people just want us all to agree that there’s not a problem and let us all continue on our merrry ways.

If you want to go after racism in popular culture there are certainly more target-rich environments than Imus In The Morning. (Not to let them off the hook either).
Perhaps you’re right. Maybe Imus was that final single raindrop that caused the collapse of the massive million ton “dam”. I guess time will tell.

These men are self-promoters. I’m a black person and I never elected them to represent me in any manner. I wish people would stop referring to them as “black leaders” and trying to palm them off on black people as a whole. Leaders of what? Black people in the US are no more one homogenous group than white people are. I get tired of people assuming that we are all pro-Jackson, pro-abortion Democrats. I think part of the problem is people constantly giving these publicity seekers more credit and power than they deserve.
This case is about Don Imus and the basketball team. The first people to call for his resignation or termination was not Jackson or Sharpton. It was the Society of Black Journalists, a professional organization who work in the same industry. IMO, it devalued their statement to have Sharpton and Jackson jump on the bandwagon because they have far less credibility regarding journalism, the media or even ethical behavior in general.
All of the talking heads, including Sharpton and Jackson are extraneous and causing a distraction from the real issue. Both of them have had past indiscretions and paid for them in lost status and income for a time. They have since regained notice and opportunities as memories have faded. Imus will likely do the same once sufficient time has passed. However, I hope we as a society can stay focused for longer than it takes the story to fade and work on treating each other with more respect and decency.

Of course races have problems with each other so do brothers and sisters, moms and dads, and nations. and there is interracial bickering too I stated that.
Honesty is also stating that one is not always perfect. Its more honest to say that sometimes things may come up in thoughts or speech that you generally dont think about. Being honest with yourself that you actually said them rather than denying that you did.
If anyone thought that Imus actually thought that the girls stood on street corners and collected money for particular acts they are insane. He spoke in the popular culture of the times for humour. It was his job, its what he does, no different than Steve O slamming himself into something. It may not be your cup of tea but to some thats what they want. Imus should have been off years ago if he was so bad.
A racist defination, hmm how about someone who is totally intolerant of anyone who has a different view from them. Who takes enjoyment in the suffering, elimination, degradation, of those people. A racist shoots 32 people dead in cold blood. He doesnt open Cancer hospitals and bring in dying children of all races. Imus wast a saint but he did have a heart and racists dont have hearts. Thats the difference.
Well, most (and they were not little, they are young women) dont even know who Imus was, but actually now they do and they forgave him. too bad the media didnt want to cover that as much as its own grandstanding.
Well if your gonna get all to pay the price, better get started and clear the airwaves. And to remember intolerance and racism starts with the church, how many wars have been fought in the name of religion. why should anyone think their “god” or “church” is any better than any other ?? what arrogance what intolerance.
Thats where this band wagon is going, Rosie, Bill Mahr, and others arent on hit lists and they regularly slam christians and the church.
Free speech just like free will means taking the good and the bad. Thats the way it has to be for free will to work

I’ll agree with you I doubt that Imus really thought they were out on the street selling themselves for money. I’m thinking he’s heard that term from pop culture, saw some ‘young tough looking’ black women, and thought it’d be funny to say that. Inappropriate yes, I don’t think he was necassarly a racist for saying it. Even if he’s said a lot of joke degrading races, he might not actually think one race is better than another. I take him for a cranky old person who is a bit of a cynic and doesn’t mind saying degrading jokes about anyone.
I’ll contest that a racist is a person that shoots 32 people, that person might be or might not be. I doubt the VT shooter was racist, but was upset about a lot of things in the world. An injustice collector regardless if they were justified or not. Then again he might be racist.
A racist person could open a hospital, for that matter he might even open a hospital solely for the race he degrades just, because he thinks it charity to help those he feels are infereor. I don’t think Imus did it for that reason. Even a cranky old man, might have a special desire to at least put his heart into something. A cranky old person, might find the time to warm up her heart at the sight of her grandchild. Who knows though Imus just use it as a tax write off. I don’t know his heart, only Imus and God does.
Just because someone is racist doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a heart. I had a roommate in college who was a true racist. Nice enough guy. Was just as normal as anyone. On that issue though, couldn’t really budge him. I could only give my apology to him and tell him to cut the jokes. Could never really understand it. It was sad. I’d be really nice to think that thoughs we we considard evil really showed themselves to be completely ugly people, but it’s usually not the case. Evil in people tends to be a twisted good.

The comment has to be taken as a whole - not treated as offensive comments usually are, piecemeal. Arguably, the word “ho’s” is popular culture (if you can call it culture), but what about “nappy”? Does Imus hang out with or listen to people (black or white) who consider African-type hair a joke?
My reference to little black girls was about those who are hearing this topic discussed in their homes and communities, not the young women on the team. In most families I know, news personalities and talk show hosts on news channels are well known, so I wouldn’t assume that there aren’t a large number of black girls who know who Imus is and what he said.
As for racists having hearts and doing good, just check out any good history books if you don’t know anyone like that…Actually the worst type of racism is the indirect, condescending, “I’ll like you as long as you know your place” type.

I guess if little girls are up on the lastest talk of Tim Russert’s last segment on Imus, then I suppose I could just as well assume that Imus has hung out with people who used nappy as a joke. I guess for the matter, I’ve heard nappy being bantered about before. But if there is such concern about Imus, a greater amount of attention must go to the mass media, especially as can be heard by a few songs on the top 40 radio, aimed at young people who pay no mind of bringing up words like, ahh I won’t even say them this is a family forum.
