MSU Jesus?

Today at church the priest pointed out a statue of “the infant of
prague” which is now wearing a green “MSU” shirt. I’m not much
into statues, but this seems disrespectful. If other people think
this is just fine, then I guess I’m overly sensitive.
 
this is Lent, the green MSU shirt would be appropriate only during ordinary time, I don’t know of any team in the final four that has purple as a team color. Scarlet for Ohio State would be OK for passiontide or Pentecost.

I am being facetious of course, but I do think there is a line that gets crossed in trying to relate to fan loyalties in some locations during seasons and playoffs, and I think in your parish someone has definitely crossed that line.

Well, fine. I’m just glad they don’t put sports attire on the
crucified Jesus. Is nothing sacred in the church anymore?
 
Personally, I just think that’s a bit strange, disrespectful even.

It wasn’t clear in the OP but was it maybe done as a joke or was someone serious about it?? Either way, I think its not good to do things like that.

But then again…that is just my opinion.🙂

You are not overly sensitive. It would be VERY VERY tempting for me to go into the church when nobody else was there, take the shirt off the statue, and trash it.
 
We dressed up Blessed Chaminade in jeans and a t-shirt as our Senior prank at my high school, but there is a vast difference between the two.

Now, the class that dressed him (Chaminade) in drag is a different story…
 
Definately sacriligious (especially michigan state), but even if the statue had UofM’s colors it would not be correct.
 
It’s no more disrespectful than singing patriotic anthems as part of the liturgy.

I’d say it is more disrespectful. Sports are just games. Patriotism is more important than sports. That being said, I wouldn’t want patriotic anthems at Mass either- except ones that are explicitly sacred in nature (like Eternal Father Strong to Save).
 
The statue is dressed appropriately now. The sport game must
be over. It’s funny how much has changed. Palm Sunday the priest was pointing out the statue saying even Jesus wants to party, and now that it’s Thursday it was just a beautiful, reverent mass.

Everybody knows Jesus supports Notre Dame.
 
Since most statues of the Infant of Prague are dressed up, I think this was just going along with the tradition - albeit in a bit of a silly manner. I’d just laugh.
