MTF Daily Roman Missal --binding?

Hi Everyone,

I’m new to this, but I have a question and I’m hoping that someone will be able to help me. I am looking into buying a Daily Roman Missal (I have one for TLM, but looking for a N.O. one). I would like to know what’s the difference in the binding; between the bonded leather, real leather, and the hardcover version. Or any other comments anyone would like to give.

Bonded leather is scraps of leather pressed together and held together with some type of binding agent (like glue). Genuine leather is just what it says-- all leather, generally of one piece. The difference between the 2 is like the difference between ground beef and steak.
Hardcover just means pressed paper particles, formed and bound together with a fabric cover.

Edit: I do want to say that bonded leather, if done well, is sometimes indistinguishable from genuine leather, but is much less expensive.
 
Thank you for your relpy. But maybe I didn’t make myself clear enough, I was thinking more along the lines of the feel of the book, how it holds up to wear and tear, ect…
 
There’s very little difference in look, feel and durability between high quality bonded leather and genuine leather. A hardbound book is, of course, much less durable and, to me, looks less appealing.
 
IMO the binding on the hardcover version is not strong enough for the thickness of the volume. Mine fell off an end table and cracked (maybe a foot and a half fall at most).
 
If you can afford it – go with leather, to me the books hold up better and have a more pleasant feel to the hand.

It was purchased when it first came out in Advent 2011 and it is not holding up as well as I had hoped. The paper inside the front and back covers is ripped about half way causing the covers to begin to flap loose. I tend to be rough on stuff but believe that I have treated this book appropriately. Prayer cards, papers and other objects are never placed inside of it and it is kept in an iPad carry case when not in use. It is going to have to go to Leonards Book Binding for refurb sooner than I had expected and when it does it will be redone in nice flexible goatskin.

The hardcover definitely doesn’t lay flat, that’s for sure.
