Much of the opposition we encounter for being disciples comes from within

At this morning’s Eucharist and reflecting on the day’s Gospel our priest said that much of the opposition we encounter in our endeavours to be faithful disciples of the Lord comes from within ourselves .

I am beginning to see how true that is .

I don’t know about anyone else , but having compromised so often with the spirit of the world and the flesh , and with the Evil Spirit , I have not helped to create an inner self which is conducive to submission to the Holy Spirit .

I have allowed to form within myself attitudes and mindsets which are going to struggle against the daily call to " deny self and take up my cross daily and follow Jesus " .

Yes, the challenge definately seems to be to ‘overcome the world’ starting from within. Not easy, I think our ego senses danger and wrestles with our need for higher ideals and against being subsumed by the Holy Spirit. Natural and not surprising but infinitely uncomfortable.

Well, it depends on how much -you want to lessen the opposition -

Detachment of things - dark night of the soul -

Fasting - etc.

And what you think a faithful disciple should be -

I really seek to follow the Holy Spirit’s daily leadings…
I really don’t want to be ‘self willed’.
Mindsets - are kinda tough and tricky to weed out -
but this makes up for our Catholic faith - today - right now.

Opposition also comes from the bad one and from the world, but nothing is impossible with God’s help.

Yours is a good thought to have when getting ready for each day. Thank you. 🙂

As Oscar Wilde said; I can resist everything…except temptation.
