Greetings guys.

A little bit about myself. I am a Catholic teenager in the Middle Eastern country of Qatar. As you would expect from the Middle East, I meet many Muslims who explain their faith to me. Some more so than others.

One of my Muslim friends sent me this link a short while ago stating that Muhammad’s name is in Sacred Scriptures in the Songs of Songs. More info is found on the side bar if ur interested in dissecting their claim.

I have studies it and I think it’s simply a misinterpretation and butchery of the Old Testament and Messianic references. But I need professional help in dissecting it and making a formal rebuttal. Hence Catholic Answers I turn too. One if not the greatest of the Apologetic organisations.

The link is here…

Your help would be appreciated in spreading the faith here in the Middle East guys.🙂

Thanks

Mary and Jesus’ names are mentioned in Ku’ran. But that does not make any sense.
If Mohammad is mentioned in the Bible, it does not make any sense.
The only meaning of these is that one time, Christians and Muslims have once united history.

For Christians, Christ is the fulfillment of the Scriptures, no body else. Mohammad could be just one of the kings or maybe king’s warriors… But this does not displace nor alter the divinity and kingship of Christ over all kings and peoples.

The Spirit of Truth is the “other Advocate.” He came to the apostles during the Pentecost (see Acts).

I haven’t heard of any Catholic apologists going into the muslim beliefs, but I know of a Protestant apologist who has debated muslims on some different topics. You can go here to see what debates (mp3) are available. You can also check the blog archives for other info about his debates with muslims.

FYI - This is considered an anti-catholic site, but it’s still a valid source.

Surely, if this was a legitimate reference in Hebrew, they could have asked a Hebrew scholar? Instead of a free online translator? (They are notoriously incorrect, as any lazy student trying to get out of their foreign language homework can attest to!:))

I’m also puzzled by what the significance of the reference is, even if it did turn out to be the name Muhammad. Is Muhammad supposed to be the lover in Songs 5? That seems like a poor sort of prophecy . . . how does saying someone named Muhammad is ‘altogether lovely’ translate into ‘Muhammad is a prophet and all Christians should now believe in Islam’?

I don’t know very much about Catholic teaching on the Songs, but I was under the impression that it was simply a celebration of the goodness of marital love, since marriage is a reflection of Christ’s love for the Church. The video seems overblown.

This is false. The word in the Son of Solomon is “Machmadim”, not “Muhammadim”. It is the plural of “Machmad”, meaning “desirable thing”, from the root “chamad” meaning “desirable”. It is NOT a name; not a form of “Muhammad” or anything else.

Here is a Christian apologetics page dealing with Muslim claims that Muhammad is found in the Bible, including the false claim that he is mentioned by name in the Song of Solomon. I find it hard to believe that no Muslim would know Hebrew well enough to avoid making such an obvious mistake, but I guess they’re counting on the idea that no Christian knows Hebrew, either. Too bad for them. I have checked this particular issue with Hebrew-speaking Jews that I know (as it is really a translation issue, which makes it of interest to me linguistically), and they all say the same thing: Muhammad is NOT found in that verse, or any other!

makes no difference, when all is said and done for the trump card is as in Hebrews.1:1-2 - and Phil.2:10-11 and Rmns.14;11 - twinc
