BUKHARI 8.242: Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet said, “Allah likes sneezing and dislikes yawning, so if someone sneezes and then praises Allah, then it is obligatory on every Muslim who heard him, to say: May Allah be merciful to you (Yar-hamuka-l-lah). But as regards yawning, it is from Satan, so one must try one’s best to stop it, if one says ‘Ha’ when yawning, Satan will laugh at him.”

FROM IBN ISHAQ’S “SIRAT RASULALLAH”, translated as, “THE LIFE OF MUHAMMAD” by A. Guillaume, page 243.

"I have heard that it was of him that the apostle said, "Whoever wants to see Satan let him take a look at Nabtal b. al-Harith!" He was a sturdy black man with long flowing hair, inflamed eyes, and dark ruddy cheeks. He used to come and talk to the apostle and listen to him and then carry what he had said to the hypocrites. It was he who said: “Muhammad is all ears: if anyone tells him anything he believes it.” God sent down concerning him: “And of them are those who annoy the prophet and say he is all ears, Say: Good ears for you. He believes in God and trusts the believers and is a mercy for those of you who believe; and those who annoy the apostle of God for them there is a painful punishment.” (Sura 9:61)

1) How is yawning from Satan?** **

2) Why did Muhammad say Satan looks like a black man?

Here’s a more thorough look at that part.

YUSUFALI: Among them are men who molest the Prophet and say, “He is (all) ear.” Say, “He listens to what is best for you: he believes in Allah, has faith in the Believers, and is a Mercy to those of you who believe.” But those who molest the Messenger will have a grievous penalty.
PICKTHAL: And of them are those who vex the Prophet and say: He is only a hearer. Say: A hearer of good for you, who believeth in Allah and is true to the believers, and a mercy for such of you as believe. Those who vex the messenger of Allah, for them there is a painful doom.
SHAKIR: And there are some of them who molest the Prophet and say: He is one who believes every thing that he hears; say: A hearer of good for you (who) believes in Allah and believes the faithful and a mercy for those of you who believe; and (as for) those who molest the Messenger of Allah, they shall have a painful punishment.
This should have been #3 on your list up there. Guess I’d better remember not to get on Mohammed’s bad side, huh? After all, it was apparently written as direct and crystal-clear guidance (as the Quran claims of itself) for everybody in the future as well.

Islamic scholar Dr. D.S. Margoliouth sums up the depiction of Muhammad in Ishaq’s Sira as follows:
“The character attributed to Muhammad in the biography of Ibn Ishaq is exceedingly unfavorable. In order to gain his ends Muhammad recoils from no expedient, and he approves of similar unscrupulousness on the part of his adherents, when exercised in his interest. He organizes assassinations and wholesale massacres. His career as the tyrant of Medina is that of a robber chief whose political economy consists of securing and dividing plunder. He is himself an unbridled libertine [morally or sexually unrestrained] and encourages the same passion in his followers. For whatever he does he is prepared to plead the express authorization of his deity. It is, however, impossible to find any Islamic religious doctrine which he is not prepared to abandon in order to secure a political end. At different points in his career he abandons the unity of God and his claim to the title of Prophet. This is a disagreeable picture for the founder of a religion, and it cannot be pleaded that it is a picture drawn by an enemy.”

Islamic Scriptures and Sources prove that Mohammed is unworthy to be called an ordinary good human let alone be messenger of God.

When people made fun of Mohamed peace be upon him…it was his message that they were making fun of. Before Mohamed peace be up on him, started calling people to the worship of one God, EVERYONE called him “the trustworthy, the honest”. They are making fun of the religion of Allah, and to them is a painful punishment if they die in that state.

Similiary, for the people who made fun of Jesus peace be upon him, calling him a magician and a liar. They were denying the TRUTH.

May God never make us among those who make fun of the truth.

Please bring PROOF from the Quran or Sunnah of the Prophet to back up what you say…if you should be truthful.

If not, then Fear God in what you say.

What are you talking about? Ofcourse they were from the Quran, telling us of what the people did during the Prophet’s (pbuh) time.

WHat exactly is your quesiton?

peace selvaraj

i skimmed through your long list. To summarize

Muslims ARE ALLOWED TO FIGHT…we dont turn the other cheek, fighting oppression is something that is mandatory for us.

Yes, when someone dies fighting for the sake of Allah, whether its protecting their home/family or protecting others, they are inshAllah granted paradise. **Whats wrong with that? ***

It is hard to comprehend if you find dying for the sake of God somethign unbelievable. But there are people who love Allah to the point of giving up everything they have, including their lives…truly they are worthy of the higest reward.

please explain what problem you have with the things you pasted above (if you want to just take out one and discuss it, thats fine too). Thank you

I find it interesting for you to have a problem with a person rewarded for suffering/dying for God. Isnt that exactly what your entire faith is based on…the suffering and murder of one innocent man?

Faith, you better explain my threat here. There are 2 questions. Those are not a joke nor do i make fun of your prophet. They are from the hadith not other books. Thanks.

Your first question is about yawning. Honestly I dont know how to adequatly answer it so it would make sense to you. InshAllah another Muslim more knoweldgble then me can do that.

I do want to say, however, that a part of faith is believing in the “unseen” which include the angels and the Jinn. The devil is one of those things that you can not see but you know exist.

That being said…what do we know about the “unseen” if we can not see them? (people have had “encounters” with the Jinn, but thats not the issue here). We depend on someone else who knows them to tell us about them. And who knows them better then their Creator? If Allah inspired Mohamed peace be upon him to say that yawning is from the devil, then yawning is from the devil.

The things that I am about to say i am not sure of…and Allah knows best. However, I looked up why we yawn online and came up with this:

Scientists speculate that the onset of a yawn is triggered either by fatigue, or by sheer boredom as, at those times, breathing is shallow, and little oxygen is carried to the lungs by the oxygen-toting cardiovascular system

The prophet peace be upon him said that our bodies have a right over us, meaning that we have to give it its due sleep and rest/food etc. So not doing so would be someting that comes from the Devil.

Likewise, boredom comes from someone having nothing to do or doing something that is not worthwhile. As the prophet peace be upon him has told us how short the life of this world is and that there is no room for wasted time…wasting time can also be something from the devil.

addition: i looked more into it, they say it is a “mystery” and no one knows why people yawn, the above is just conjecture. Again, it is my opinion.

and Allah knows best and i know nothing 🙂

YOUR SECOND QUESTION:

This one is an easy one…it has NOTHING to do with black or white. The prophet (pbuh) said that no one is superior to anyone else except by their God-conciousness. He said that if a black man would rise up and be better in faith, than people should listen to them. I can look up both hadith for you later, inshAllah if you would like.

So why did the Prophet liken him to the devil? Simple, because of his CHARACTERISTICS, as it clearly states in the hadith

He used to come and talk to the apostle and listen to him and then carry what he had said to the hypocrites. It was he who said: "Muhammad is all ears: if anyone tells him anything he believes it."

for which GOD send down the verse

Among them are men who molest the Prophet and say, “He is (all) ear.” Say, “He listens to what is best for you: he believes in Allah, has faith in the Believers, and is a Mercy to those of you who believe.” But those who molest the Messenger will have a grievous penalty (9:61)

I still dont understand your explanation here. Do not bring forth the scientist which is having different statement from your books. I just wanted to know why is it from Satan. Any other sources that you may get about yawning from Satan except from your books?

Firstly, do you understand the explanation about the black man and the devil?

My explanation about the yawning was my own speculation and conjecture…based on my own mind…nothing else.

It boils down to believing in the unseen…and believing what God tells you about the unseen.

So every one that has difference perception with your prophet would get grievous penalty?.. what about the scientist’s statement about the yawing thing? Are not they also molested the messenger because what they stated are quite difference from what muhammad say?.. pls clarify. thanks

That means no other sources you can get to proof that yawning from Satan right?

Ok, inshALlah, i will explain again. this is gonna be long, i apologzie for that.

No one ever made fun of the Prophet (pbuh) before he started telling people to worship one God. In fact they called him “the trust worthy, the honest.” When he stood in front of them, declaring God’s message for the first time…he first asked them "if i told you an army was present behind this mountain, would you believe me? They all replied “ofcourse we would, you are the trustworthy, the honest”.

So, then why did they all start caling him a liar? Because the REJECTED the truth. Just like people rejected JESUS saying that he was a liar, just like people rejected MOSES saying that he was a magician just like people rejected ABRAHAM.

rejectors of truth are like broken records, same drama.

So, it wasnt that someone ws “disagreeing” with the prophet (pbuh) it was that they were rejecting the truth AND MAKING FUN OF IT. For them is a grievous penalty.

In terms of people disagreeing with the Prophet (pbuh), this happneed…during times of war when someone would come up with a better war tactic, the prophet (pbuh) would gladly agree. Even one of his wives once questioned him on smething (long story, but she misunderstood somethin he said)…he just re explained it nicely and she understood.

Its about rejecting truth. Its about rejecting the message of God. ITs about making fun of that message. To those people is the fire of hell for which they will neither die nor live.

In terms of the yawning…the “scientist” say that THEY DONT KNOW, ITS A MYSTERY. they dont know why we yawn.
i’ll say it again. iTs about believing in the unseen and beliving in what the Creator of the unseen says about them.

Prophet say it comes from satan and scientists say no although some of them have differs opinion about yawning but none of them say it from satan. its not all about disagreeing but also quite alot of difference content and meaning. Isnt that mean scientists rejecting the truth of God’s message?

Peace

Before going into explaining the ahadith, I want to comment about what cute2904 said and keeps saying as if she discovered the hot water, and trying to corner Sister Faith; see your religion is not confirmed by science “Prophet say it comes from satan and scientists say no although some of them have differs opinion about yawning but none of them say it from satan. It’s not all about disagreeing but also quite alot of difference content and meaning. Isnt that mean scientists rejecting the truth of God’s message?”.
Code:
The words: satan and god, are not in the scientific dictionary. Anyways, I’ll not comment any further on this point, but please think before you speak, don’t let your brain be like an extra weight. One more favor, please, don’t venture into the ahadith if you lack basic knowledge of the hadith classification.
This question was asked before, so I quoted the answer from this link (understanding-islam.com/rs/s-014.htm)), but I don’t consider it a full answer (at least for me) and later I’ll explain.

“The Prophet (PBUH) said:
  1. “When you yawn, cover your mouth with your hand.” (Muslim)
  2. “**Try as hard as possible to overcome your yawns ** while you are in your prayers”. (Muslim)
  3. “Allah likes the sneeze and dislikes the yawn. When someone amongst you makes a sound like “aah aah” while yawning, the shaitan (satan) laughs in his open mouth.” (Tirmadhi)
  4. “Allah likes the sneeze and dislikes the yawn. When someone among you sneezes and says: ‘Alhamdulillah’ (All praise to Allah [for relieving me]), it is essential for all those who hear him to say: “yarhamukallah” (May Allah have mercy on you). While if someone feels that he is about to yawn, he should try to overcome it, as much as possible [and if it is not possible to overcome it] he must not make sounds like: “haah haah”. These sounds are prompted by the shaitan (satan) and he laughs when you make such sounds [while yawning]”. (Tirmadhi)
These and a number of other narrations point to the fact that the Prophet (PBUH), in these words has actually taught an important etiquette to his companions. It seems that the narrators of the particular narration of Bukhari that you have referred to have missed out on an important part of the actual words of the Prophet (PBUH). What the Prophet (PBUH) actually condemned was not the natural phenomenon of yawning, but to yawn without covering one’s mouth and to make sounds with such yawns. If this explanation is held to be correct, it would mean that the Prophet (PBUH) has actually taught us the following etiquette in this saying:
  5. To control and overcome our tendency to yawn in our prayers and while sitting in company of others. This is primarily due to two reasons: Firstly, yawning is a sign of lethargy. Such lethargy, in prayers or in company of others depicts that a person is not fully interested and is not concentrating in what he is doing. Secondly, such lethargy is prone to be contagious. It has been observed that when person in company of others, whether in prayers or otherwise, yawns, he prompts the others to do the same. Such a tendency greatly contributes in spoiling the atmosphere of the gathering.
  6. In case it is not possible to overcome a yawn, then we should at least observe our social etiquette. We should cover our mouth and not make any lethargic sounds. “
