Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 1, Number 3:
…The Prophet added, "The angel caught me (forcefully) and pressed me so hard that I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read and I replied, ‘I do not know how to read.’ Thereupon he caught me again and pressed me a second time till I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read but again I replied, ‘I do not know how to read (or what shall I read)?’ Thereupon he caught me for the third time and pressed me, and then released me and said, 'Read in the name of your Lord, who has created (all that exists) has created man from a clot. Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous.” (96.1, 96.2, 96.3) Then Allah’s Apostle returned with the Inspiration and with his heart beating severely. Then he went to Khadija bint Khuwailid and said, “Cover me! Cover me!” They covered him till his fear was over and after that he told her everything that had happened and said, “I fear that something may happen to me.” Khadija replied, “Never! By Allah, Allah will never disgrace you. You keep good relations with your Kith and kin, help the poor and the destitute, serve your guests generously and assist the deserving calamity-afflicted ones…”

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 74, Number 266:
"Narrated 'Aisha:
Allah’s Apostle said, “O 'Aisha! This is Gabriel sending his greetings to you.” I said, “Peace, and Allah’s Mercy be on him (Gabriel). You see what we do not see.” (She was addressing Allah’s Apostle).

The angel Gabriel is a bully?
I think not. I did not read Gabriel pressing Mary so hard when she recieved a message from Gabriel. I dont think a real angel of God would press people until they cant take it anymore.

You’re right, they only knew his identity because Muhammad told them. Which is to be expected–how else would they know

? as the people in the Bible knew.
He appeared as a man, but was not someone that any of them recognized, he appeared wearing perfectly white clothes and clean black hair, no signs of travel on him, despite the fact they lived in the desert and he wasn’t a person from Medina.

Moses produced the Law which is known to almost every human on the planet, and requires no witness except our respectfull acknowledgement of it’s source which is God.
Hi

It is good that you agree that when Moses had a long conversation with GodAllahYHWH, there were no witnesses; yet you believe that GodAllahYHWH talked to Moses. There is no compulsion; you can deny that even now if you like, this is just a discussion and I don’t want to impose anything on you.

Now kindly tell us which book or books were authored by Moses by himself? Please be specific. If there is none authored by Moses, kindly mention.

It is not essential that you should answer my queries; it is open to anybody to respond my query.

Pease be to the enquiring mind.

Thanks

This is an argument based on faulty comparison. Although no one witnessed Moses while he was listening to God in the burning bush, the whole Israelite community saw and witnessed the Theophany when God descended to speak to Moses on Mount Sinai.

Exodus 20:18-21 And all the people saw the voices and the flames, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mount smoking; and being terrified and struck with fear, they stood afar off, Saying to Moses: Speak thou to us, and we will hear: let not the Lord speak to us, lest we die. And Moses said to the people: **Fear not; for God is come to prove you, and that the dread of him might be in you, and you should not sin. **And the people stood afar off. But Moses went to the dark cloud wherein God was.

No such thing occurred in Islamic history.

What does this have to do with Mohammad’s lack of witnesses? Avoid digression please.

Peace.

Hi

I have never experienced seeing a voice; the voice is always heard. Have you ever experienced seeing a voice?

We Muslims don’t beleive “a visible manifestation of God” and I think the Catholics also don’t believe that GodAllahYHWH is a physical being; so there is no question of a theophony.

I respect your religion.

Thanks

Dear Paar,

Have you ever seen the flames and the mountain smoking? Remember, the author of the genesis was not necessarily a grammar expert. So, he used one verb for all the phenomenon he described.

it is not called manifestation for no reason Paarsurrey.

Manifestation:

The act of manifesting.
The state of being manifested.
An indication of the existence, reality, or presence of something: A high fever is an early manifestation of the disease.

One of the forms in which someone or something, such as a person, a divine being, or an idea, is revealed.
The materialized form of a spirit.
A public demonstration, usually of a political nature.

The verb “see” in that context pertains to “perception with all senses”. This specific lecture on grammar is again irrelevant to our topic.

Catholics and all Christians believe in the notion of Theophany because it is written in the Old Testament. Besides, the New Testament recounts the Theophany of the Triune God at Jesus’ baptism. The Eastern Church always celebrates this feast of Theophany on January 6.

Theophany does not turn God into a physical being. The Koran also uses words that associate divine attributes with physicality and depicting God as a man having hands, for instance:

Surah 5:64. The Jews say: Allah’s hand is fettered. Their hands are fettered and they are accursed for saying so. Nay, but both His hands are spread out wide in bounty.

More, the Koran teaches that angelic beings can appear in human form, which does not mean that angels have physical bodies:

Surah 19:17. And had chosen seclusion from them. Then We sent unto her Our Spirit and it assumed for her **the likeness of a perfect man. **

I respect you and your faith too.

Muhammad performed no miracles. There is no evidence or proofs offered to support his claim of Divine communication. This is inconsistent with old testament prophets and patriarchs and, of course, of Christ Himself.

There were no witnesses because there was nothing to witness. Claims to the otherwise are “takiyya”.

No when the Quran was revealed by an angel to Muhammad he had no witnesses, and no one can see that angel except him:

I think that angel nothing but Satan, read these more Hadiths:

- The revelation is hard on Muhammed.
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 1, Number 2:
“*Narrated 'Aisha:
(the mother of the faithful believers) Al-Harith bin Hisham asked Allah’s Apostle “O Allah’s Apostle! How is the Divine Inspiration revealed to you?” Allah’s Apostle replied, “Sometimes it is (revealed) like the ringing of a bell, this form of Inspiration is the hardest of all and then this state passes ’ off after I have grasped what is inspired. Sometimes the Angel comes in the form of a man and talks to me and I grasp whatever he says.” 'Aisha added: Verily I saw the Prophet being inspired Divinely on a very cold day and noticed the Sweat dropping from his forehead (as the Inspiration was over). *”

** - The temporary halting of the revelation almost caused Muhammad to commit suicide.**
  • Sahih Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 87, Number 111:
“…But after a few days Waraqa died and the Divine Inspiration was also paused for a while and the Prophet became so sad as we have heard that he intended several times to throw himself from the tops of high mountains …”*

and being terrified and struck with fear,

Hi

What kind of witnesses are these who stand afar? the witnesses have to be very near.

The incident has been clarified by Quran in more than one places I think. I mention just one:
[2:52] And when We made Moses a promise of forty nights, then you took the calf for worship in his absence and you were the transgressors.
[2:53] Then We forgave you thereafter, that you may be grateful.
[2:54] And remember when We gave Moses the Book and the Discrimination, that you may be rightly guided.
[2:55] And when Moses said to his people, ‘O my people, you have indeed wronged yourselves by taking the calf for worship; turn ye therefore to your Maker, and kill your evil desires; that is best for you in the sight of your Maker.’ Then He turned towards you with compassion. Surely, He is Oft-Returning with compassion and is Merciful.
[2:56] And remember when you said, ‘O Moses, we will not believe thee until we see Allah face to face;’ then the thunderbolt overtook you, while you witnessed with your own eyes the consequences of your conduct.
[2:57] Then We raised you up after your death, that you might be grateful.
[2:58] And We caused the clouds to be a shade over you and sent down on you Manna and Salwa, saying, ‘Eat of the good things We have provided for you.’ And they wronged Us not, but it was themselves that they wronged.
[2:59] And remember the time when We said, ‘Enter this town and eat therefrom - whatever you will - plentifully; and enter the gate submissively and say, ‘God! forgive us our sins.’ We shall forgive you your sins and We shall give increase to those who do good.’
[2:60] The transgressors changed it for a word other than that which was said to them. So We sent down upon the transgressors a punishment from heaven, because they were disobedient.

Dear Swariffin

Can’t we do without these scribes? they so often make mistakes and make mountains out of a molehill; i mean they complicate simple things.

Thanks

Hi

There is no such thing “takiyya” in Quran. Anybody who thinks there is such thing in Quran should quote the verse with five preceding and five following verses , in all eleven consecutive verses from Quran for the context and to ascertain the correct meaning and for a positive discussion.

Thanks

Hi

What kind of witnesses are these who stand afar? the witnesses have to be very near.
How many meters or centimeters were those witnesses supposed to be near the scene according to your personal criterion?

The Book of Exodus makes it clear that all the Israelites chose to be as further away from the mountain as possible since they all witnessed the theopany and were scared by it.
The incident has been clarified by Quran in more than one places I think.

You cannot say that the quoted verses of the Koran function to clarify the incident in the Old Testament because those Koran verses do not recount the theophany and the events ensuing it in details and presents a different (modified) version of the Old Testament account. The primary aim of the verses quoted from the Koran was to denounce Jews in Mohammad’s time through examples from their history.

Many worses in the Koran are strikingly in a far worse grammatical condition.
