My parish is getting even more multicultural. Father announced this morning that we will soon be adding the part time services of a priest from Haiti on Sundays. We currently have an American priest (the pastor), a Philipino, and a Latino. So each Sunday we have three Masses in English, two in Spanish and we will soon have one in Creole.
Who says Orlando is a backwater?

I have got to go to Orlando sometime soon. I thought we were muticultural here, with Masses in Tagalog, Spanish, Polish and English.

An American priest? Do you mean a Native American, a Caucasian American, an African-American or a Hispanic American?

It is not my parish, but when we say that, we mean a priest born in the US or raised here since childhood regardless of race or ethnicity since there are so many being invited to serve from other countries.

My pastor is Native Texan (which matters more than his race/ethnicity since it is a distinctive culture down here) and our parochial vicar (here for one year) is from Nigerian. We had a different priest visiting the previous year from Nigeria also. He was so great that we asked to keep him and instead his bishop loaned us another wonderful young priest.

:rotfl: I’ve visited the great state of Texas, I know exactly what you mean! Mind you, Native New Yorkers are a breed unto themselves too …
Correction: New York City natives (5 buroughs and surrounding suburbs, especially Long Island) are a breed unto themselves. Upstate New Yorkers are normal.👍

LilyM: In answer to your question, yes.

First of 9: I have lived in upstate NY and I can attest to normalcy.

Florida is a lot like Toronto, ON. Everyone is from somewhere else.

A friend of mine had a long work assignment in Toronto. He characterized the city as “Calcutta without the cows.”
