What is the extent of charity we must show to do justice to the great commandment “Love thy neighbor”? I’m sure we all fall short, not just the shareholders of the pharma companies.

I had, what I thought, was a relatively simple question when I began this. Quite frankly, being a Catholic site, I assumed, erroneously, it looks, that there might be clergy participating. I’m not seeing the “type” of responses I’d expected, and the more I question the responses, the more aggressive they are becoming. If I’d had the answer to my question, I would not have asked it. I would not have HAD to ask it. Don’t demand proof from me to back up what I’m asking. If I had proof, I would not be here! What did you think I was going to do? Roll over once you gave your opinion? I still have questions. You have not assuaged my curiosity completely.

I think you are seeing some impatience at your habit of repeating your thesis, and your unwillingness to think about and understand what has been put to you.

“The Cure” to cancer is an absurdity. Cancer is an entire family of diseases; a drug that cures one cancer may be completely useless against another. In any case, big money is exactly the reason they wouldn’t conceal a cure- a reliable cure will sell for as much as, if not more than, what is charged for treatments that are less reliable.

Not saying they are. Pricing them out of reach is. Cancer meds are necessary for life. So is food.

The fact that something costs more than I can pay does not prove the manufacturer or merchant are cheating. The item might really be that expensive to make.

It indicates that possibly the teaching is old school. What about eating meat in Friday’s? People were threatened with hell and domination if they did that. Now, it’s acceptable practice. Wonder what happened to all those souls who ended up in hell before they changed the rules…

The Church never taught that eating meat on Friday would send you to hell. Doubtless there were individual priests who went overboard on the sermons, but that’s down to the priests, not the Church.

Because they are in an entirely different position. What other manufacturer has a product that is essential to a person’s ability to live? Medications are necessary for people to avoid death from certain illnesses. Certainly, quality of life is impacted. Plain and simple. Hold back the meds, and you raise the possibility of someone’s unnecessarily earlier-than-it-should-be demise.

If the company cannot make a profit they go out of business.
If the company goes out of business nobody gets any drugs at all.
Expensive drugs does not automatically equal price-gouging sellers.

. Thou shalt NOT… Period. My question is, if a Pharma company prices a drug out of patients’ reach, and they die because they can’t afford the meds, is it murder? I’m looking for a yes or no and why

No.
No, it is not murder. Not if the reason for the high price is because the drug is really that expensive to make and sell.

Expensive product does not automatically equal price-gouging.
