I think personal opinions really don’t matter since there are actual laws in place. Take movies on DVD. Has anyone here read the FBI Warning? You can’t copy it, even if you’re not making any money off it. Pretty clear.

I work for a media company. Imagine this. 30 days after we published a book, the whole thing was available on a file sharing site scanned cover to cover. How would you feel if it was your book? Now, all anyone has to do is download it and they’ve got a free copy of our book.

Hi, I just wanted to ask the following.

I have some MIDI files. I’m probably making excuses to keep them, I know, but would it be alright to keep them since they’re MIDI’s and not MP3’s? Or since they carry the melodies of the original songs, should I delete them? Like let’s say it’s a MIDI file of a Beatles song. It’s got the melody, but it doesn’t have voices or anything.

Also, regarding YouTube, I use it to look up, for example, the openings to childhood cartoons, movie trailers, though I’m hesitant to watch anime music videos if I don’t own the song and the anime in question, because it’ll feel like I’m watching it for free without owning both song and anime (I also hesitate to watch the openings of anime for that reason…so why watch the openings of American cartoons? I know. sheepish). I collect show openings, saturday morning bumpers and such on my YouTube account, as well as movie trailers, would that be okay? I guess it would still be stealing. But I’d just like some clarification.

I’m probably muddling the truth with all the above excuses. But any replies sent my way would be greatly appreciated.
