Music at the pope's Vespers service tonight?

I’m watching it right now on MSNBC-- The Evening Prayer service at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

Does anyone know where I can find a list of all the hymns they’re doing tonight?

Does anything sound remotely familiar? Is any of it in Latin? I’m at work right now and can’t get the feed from EWTN. :mad: I’ll probably have to wait until late night to catch the rebroadcast.

On a lighter note, did you see the Pope’s birthday cake? 😃 Wow!!! I’m sure he got a kick out ot if. Our mayor was one of the 13,500 people who showed up to greet the Holy Father at the White House. I admonished him to listen to every word that came out of the Holy Father’s mouth and take it to heart. 👍
 
One of the hymns is At the Lamb’s High Feast We Sing. The rest are the psalms from the Vespers set to Music. The Pater Noster was (is) being chanted and the final hymn is the Regina Caeli.

Yes, actually one of the songs sounded like something we sing at mass (OF) all the time. Like, every week almost. I’m bad with names, but the tune is familiar. The words were English, and the Holy Father was singing along. After all I’ve heard, that was kind of a suprise. But the rest of the music did seem to be in Latin, if I heard correctly.

I did not see the cake, but I can imagine. I’m going to hit youtube after this. You’re lucky though, at least you get EWTN. I’m watching MSNBC. Which, to my shock, is airing full and uninterrupted coverage of the service. It’s pretty much been all pope all day on this network.

First time I’ve ever see the inside of the National Basilica. It’s very beautiful.

Actually, the tune for At the Lamb’s High Feast We Sing comes from an old German hymn. Therefore, he would be very familiar with it.

I just looked at my inbox and, for informational purposes, I received an email from OCP. When I had seen the selections for tomorrow’s Mass at Nationals Stadium, I could see the proverbial handwriting on the wall: OCP was going to use this as a huge marketing tool. In their own words, they proudly proclaim:
