We are starting (already!) to plan classes for next May’s First Communion. We will have all of the groups learn the same hymns.

Suggestions, please, for which ones to use?

Thanks!

“Jesus, my Lord, my God, my all”

Jesus, my Lord, my God, my all,
How can I love Thee as I ought?
And how revere this wond’rous gift,
So far surpassing hope or thought.
Sweet Sacrament, we Thee adore.
O make us love Thee more and more!
O make us love Thee more and more!

Had I but Mary’s sinless heart,
To love Thee with, my dearest King;
O with what bursts of fervent praise,
Thy goodness, Jesus, would I sing!
Sweet Sacrament, we Thee adore.
O make us love Thee more and more!
O make us love Thee more and more!

What ever you do DO NOT use the one that says “We are the bread of life, you and I are the bread of life!” Read the words and make sure it matches what the Catholic Church teaches.

Another good one:

“Adoro te Devote” written by St. Thomas Aquinas

If you must you can use the English words, but the Latin is absolutely beautiful, and how could it not be having been composed by the Angelic Doctor?

There is a book you can order from Resource Publications which gives you planning ideas for First Communion liturgies, including many beautiful songs easily learned by young children. One song we use is titled “Be the Hands, the Heart of God” and another is
“Enter the Journey”…I am not in the office right now, but would be happy to give you more detailed information on these tomorrow…
let me know if you are interested.
