My husband is a music minister and needs some inspiration for appropriate hymns to play for a “blue Mass”. (a Mass specifically said for police officers and other first responders.) Any suggestions? Are there any specific hymns that cops like?

Amazing Grace

To Jesus Christ Our Sovereign King
Take Lord Receive
Alleluia, Sing To Jesus
Holy God We Praise Thy Name
Be Not Afraid
Blest Are They
Here I Am Lord
Prayer of St. Francis

Not sure what officers like, but those are just some ideas off the top of my head.

Take Lord, Receive. For sure.

You Are Mine is also nice.
Healer of Our Every Ill
song of St. Patrick. “Christ be ever before me”

“Be thou my Vision” . This was once used at a Mass I attended years ago honoring fire fighters. As I was reading this post, it came to my mind for some reason, and I started humming the melody. Thought it may be worth shaing. 🙂

Yes!

Take Up Your Cross by Charles W. Everest (1814-1877) set to the hymn tune ERHALT UNS HERR. This hymn speaks to my life situation.

O God Our Help in Ages Past by Isaac Watts (1674-1748) set to the hymn tune ST. ANNE with verse 3 saying " … . and earth received her frame . ."

On Eagles Wings by Michael Joncas

and finally

Immaculate Mary (LOURDES HYMN), the theme song of my parish.

:harp:

LOL, Eagle’s Wings…the yoo-hoo song.

I totally forgot about Shepherd Me O God. A gorgeous one for hope and perseverance.

I was humming this hymn randomly as I went through airport security this morning!
