You know, I sure do a lot of recycling of songs during Easter, it being a lengthy liturgical season. I found a new one I like “Resucito”. I think I can handle the one word in Spanish, if I practice!😃 It is one of the favorites among the Hispanics.

This coming Sunday we have
Processional: Christ the Lord is Risen Again
Offertory/Gradual: We’ll Sing in the Morning; Awake, Arise, Lift Up Thy Voice
Communion: Jesu, Thou Joy of Loving Hearts; For the Bread Which Thou Hast Broken
Recessional: Thine Be the Glory

Is anyone else in the practise of calling this Divine Mercy Sunday as “Low Sunday”?

We recycle some hymns as well. Near the end of the season, we decided to use some hymns we used on Easter Sunday. No one will remember them! 😃

I find that it’s always appropriate to reuse “Jesus Christ Is Risen Today” and/or “Christ, the Lord Is Risen Today”.

As for hymns during the Triduum, I use the same ones every year. Call me lazy if you like, but I am preparing enough with new choral pieces for the choir that new hymns are not on my ‘to-do’ list.

The rest of the season, on the other hand, is usually a somewhat decent change from the previous year (I do follow the readings somewhat during Easter).

con Él cantamos. ¡Aleluya!*

I think our May Crowning is this coming Sunday, May 3rd. We may have to change the processional hymn to a Marian hymn. It’s a shame because I love “Come, Christians, Join to Sing”. 😦

These weeks of Easter are flying! I can’t believe we’re coming up on the Fifth Sunday already.

Yes indeed!

I think we will be changing our opening hymn to “Sing of Mary” for our May crowning, which is Mother’s Day. 😃

That’s a good one. I’m thinking we’ll probably go with “Hail, Holy Queen” or “Immaculate Mary”. I love “Sing of Mary”, though. It’s a gem.

I think we’ll use “O Sanctissima” as a post-communion hymn as well.

Am I the only one that doesn’t make a change simply because it is “May Crowning” ? Doesn’t make any sense to me, since that is supposed to be done outside of Mass anyway.

Maybe 🤷

Can we please keep this thread solely for the purpose of posting our music choices and suggestions? We generally don’t engage in discussions outside of that, so we can keep the thread going. There are plenty of other threads where people can discuss what music is or is not appropriate at mass.

Believe me, I have definite opinions on this matter, and I have read the GIRM and Sing to the Lord (for the US), and we do our best to follow the rubrics. But this thread is not for discussions of whether or not people are following the rubrics, or whose interpretations are correct.

Code:
I used a Marian hymn for the offertory and usually use one Marian song the month of May. I can see both side to this, but I think we all know the reality that we have to pretty much decide for ourselves what is best, and what exactly our respective parish ordinaries expect of us.
I do not see the question as argumentative though and confess a little curiosity myself how wide spread this practice is. As long as it stand at that level, we should be okay.

The CCD closing Mass was this past weekend, and the First Holy Communion Class always presents flowers to the Blessed Mother at the processional. We kept the processional hymn as is for the majority of the Sunday Masses but changed it to “Immaculate Mary” for the Mass which had the May Crowning. It was really nice seeing the kids partake in this old tradition!

We always sing JOY to thee O Queen of Heaven at the end of every mass in Eastertide, and always have a separate May procession on Saturday in early May.
