What tune do you use? Hyfrodol isn’t really upbeat…

My last weekend as Music Director was:

Gathering: Holy, Holy, Holy
Preparation: Here I Am, Lord
Communion: Lord When You Came
Closing: Lord of the Dance

Tomorrow (Ash Wednesday)

Entrance: Draw Near O Lord (Latin/English)
Ashes: Were You There,
Offering: Only This I want, Near the Cross
Communion: At That First Eucharist, Lord Let Me Walk
Meditaion: Hosea (Come Back to Me)
Recessional: Jesus Walked That Lonesome Valley

Switching to Jubilate Dei for the Mass setting.

It makes sense that kids would love it. It’s a very upbeat song. Why it’s played in a parish with most retirees and very few kids I can’t understand (not that I’m a retiree, not even close ;)).
I have no idea why that would be played at a Mass with all adults. I bet some eyes are rolled. 😉

This second year of using Jubilate Dei in Mass for Lent is going well. People are catching in fast. I think by next week we will be 75%.

Hmmmmm…what is this? Enlighten me please, and where do I go to find the music?
🙂

Sunday 2-24-13, Second Sunday in Lent

Gathering: Lord, Who throughtout These Forty Days

Presentation and Preparation of Gifts: Transfigure Us, O Lord

Communion: We Remember & 2nd will be probably Amazng Grace (Father said he would like to hear that.)

Sending Forth: Leave in Sacred Silence

Question about Sacred Silence, is this done everywhere (obviously not), so is it decided by parish, or by diocese?

I understand the idea behind the Leaving in Sacred Silence, but is there anything about it in the GIRM or Sing to the Lord? (I don’t remember offhand, and the binders are in another in the car…)

When the congregation leaves in Sacred Silence, what is said?

Beautiful. I wish I could attend mass where you are.

Thank you - that’s kind of you. It took a long time to find a parish that was right for me. I am not a fan of the TLM as I find the silence and lack of active participation does not work for me. Similarly many Catholic parishes with good choirs don’t have a traditional of congregational hymnody - and I am a huge fan of hymns when chosen appropriately. Finally, many of the parishes tend to chose exclusively twentieth century hymns composed by Catholic authors many of which leave me cold, and besides no-one sang. I prefer traditional hymns from a range of denominational perspectives.

We are lucky, I believe, to have a former Anglican as our music director so the music programme includes chanted propers at the introit and communion, a choral polyphonic mass setting and motet once or twice a month, and congregational settings on other days - but always with good hymn choices every week!

It is actually in the missalette we use, at least most of it. Here is one resource for the Latin version.

adoremus.org/JubilateDeo.html#Anchor-Mass-35882

We were given our English translations in a workshop we had last year.
You can also find it in some of the mainstream hymnals - like in OCP, Gather, Worship, WLP, etc. It’s just that most places don’t use it, although you will see some incorporate the Agnus Dei and sometimes the Sanctus.

Despite many years of continued efforts to draw attention and help reveal that a cantor should not sing the entire exultet and should omit that which has been designated to be sung by a deacon or priest only, (as the written instructions noted on every printed score used for the last twenty years " has implied") I am again disappointed to find that even with the new liturgy and new sheet music the choir will continue to have a cantor sing even that portion which I understand has been and continues to be reserved for an ordained minister, preferably the “servant-deacon”.

There has not even been a need for me to reiterate the question again this year; the cantor preemptively acknowledging my historical objection and noting the pastor has said it does not really matter as neither he nor the participating deacon wish to sing. Perhaps something like this has been noted, discussed, or researched before… Please suggest the simplest and best conversion tool or resource one might employ to take advantage of this evangelical opportunity.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has never been able to overpower it.
