Next Weekend:

Sunday, March 3, 2013 - Third Sunday of Lent - Year C

Processional Hymn: #782 - “Psalm 51: Create in Me” Kendzia
Preparation of the Gifts: #135 - “Forty Days and Forty Nights” HEINLEIN
Communion Hymn: #116 - “Leave the Past in Ashes” Consiglio
Recessional Hymn: #120 - “Now Is the Acceptable Time” Bridge

Easter Vigil. Under what circumstance, may a non-ordained cantor sing the entire Exsultet?

Surely someone can shine a little light on this “Service of Light” . Paschal Candle.

Reference Reasoning Restrictions Please.
(See Earlier Post - Practice vs Allowed)

first preference is a deacon, then a priest
then if needed, (which is not defined) by someone else.

There is a small portion that can only be sung by priest or deacon

THX AGAPE !

You are confirming my understanding. Please see my referenced prior post regarding my “Social” Problem with what I believe to be a continuing wrong rather than just a “matter of style” difference. Ammunition please for the Church Militant…I pledge to deliver if I can but find. Please help me overturn the basket and put something on the lamp-stand…The sowing and nurturing of seeds must progress.

EXULTET LESSON PLEASE.

I was told we couldn’t sing anything from the Deutschemass anymore since the words were wrong. Is that not true? Europe is still allowed to use the beautiful traditional masses of the ages past as they don’t have English translations? We aren’t?
I was in the little choir. We lost our organist to old age and all we have is a guitarist on speed. We started doing a snappy little Glory to God that was absolutely hideous.( A
small isolated rural area with no resources, few musicians, the congregation doesn’t know how to sing parts, I just can’t stand it anymore.) And the music in the Missel Music edition doesn’t HAVE any parts! We can’t afford new Hymnals every few years.
Our priest is from an African country, we can’t understand anything he says. The white people are all old farmers, there is a different vibrant Mexican community now. Separate masses and everything. They have good music, maybe I’ll just go to that mass. They probably have a mariachi band like some of the old churches in Texas.
The utter ugliness of the entire mass could not have been better invented by demons.
I used to be Orthodox and we could make the liturgy beautiful with as few as four singers.
I’m just grossed out and very discouraged.
I was curious about the old masses. Thanks.

Why do some parishes leave in sacred silence, and others have a recessional hymn?

In the original Schubert/Proulx arrangement of the Deutschemesse, the words to the Lamb of God were wrong, so when there was a crackdown on making sure the texts were correct for the Lamb of God, especially, many dropped that, but not the rest of the mass. Then when the new revisions were made, Proulx arranged the Lamb of God correctly before he died. The rest of the mass, with the old text and the new next, are correct. Whoever told you that they couldn’t use the entire mass because of the wrong text was probably thinking of the Lamb of God and then just applied it to the entire mass setting.

In the US, some parishes still use parts from the older masses. It’s not just Europe, although I can understand how you would feel like it is. My former parish did a Latin OF twice a month and we always did gorgeous polyphonic Latin masses then. Some parishes still use them even for the English OF. Then, of course, for the EF, you could definitely use them.

Looking for free sources of Catholic Music which can be printed from an online source. 🤷

Anything one is told by a priest applies only to that parish which is under his responsible guidance. We can not take the rules used in one parish and apply them to other parishes, binding on priest with the words of another. This is one reason why this thread attempts to discourage debate. It is about practical assistence within our given parameters.

Great thread, glad I found it. Just one question. I’ve located Part III, where do I find parts I and II? Do they still exist? Thanks!

They still exist. 🙂 Try typing in the search bar the same thread title or just part of it. It probably should bring up the other threads.

I tried that, too, and all that came up was Part III. Would love to see the older threads.
The two links I posted were the first two threads. My apologies for not making that clear. They didn’t have the title “Music Leader Thread…”
