That is very sad to hear. I enjoyed many of his works and arrangements for mass.

I am hoping that my music director will relent and sing Attende Domine. I could not bear most of what she chose today for the afternoon Mass. “I will Choose Christ” was really bad. She also needs to not play piano solos. I told her that I would leave her a copy of Paschale Solemnitatis to show her that the instruments need to help sustain the singing, not overpower it.

I was disappointed that we didn’t sing “Attende Domine” at my parish either. I don’t see it listed in the Today’s Liturgy planner that my director uses, so I doubt that they’ll get any ideas to use it.

Do you know what planner she uses? It’s listed in Today’s Liturgy, so that’s an indication of where she got the idea to use that.

What else did she choose? Also, does your parish use an OCP hymnal/missal?

Yup. Our parish is tethered unmercifully to the OCP planner. We have United in Christ, Rise up and Sing and Spirit and Song. It is just awful. Of course, OCP, as I have experienced it, will only promote songs that push their agenda along. Even though they have Attende Domine, it’s only mere lip service, as I see it.

Yeah, I know what you mean. OCP seems to really promote songs that have been made by their composers. They really don’t have a traditional feel that much. Those hymnals are awful choices, IMO.

Did you ever try talking to her about it? I mean, maybe you could offer to give her advice in planning.

I buy Today’s Liturgy because it gives me a perspective on what we might be singing at Mass, and I like the articles. 😛

I like to suggest new things each week, and I used most of OCP’s traditional tastes for the First, Second, and Third Sunday’s of Lent, but the Fourth and Fifth might get a little frisky.

Yes, my parish has used this mass setting often. We do it at the parish where I work as well. I like Vermulst’s settings. He has a Mass For Christian Unity which I like. The youtube video takes the Sanctus slower than how we sang it at mass. Both of the parishes take it at a slightly more jubilant tampi.
 
My parish and the one I work at also does this mass. Franz Schubert’s “Deutsche Messe” (German Mass). It’s one of my favorite masses. I used it at the parish when I directed the children’s choir. The congregations at all three parishes seemed to really sing it andliked it. Can’t do the Agnus dei, though, until they can find a way to fit the proper English text into the music.

Guys, I was a basket case at Mass today. Our Parochial Vicar left and his homily was so sad. The whole church was in tears and I felt so sad. Well, I went to the later Mass and the choir sang, and they did so beautifully! This is what they sang:

After Father’s homily, the choir sang something relating to the first reading, walking on holy grounds. It was so sad, and just made me bust out crying on top of Father’s last homily.

I don’t have my sheet music on me, but I think I have the GIA edition like the one CatholicZ09 linked because mine is also a Proulx adaptation. It’s a grey and blue cover. The links had only the melody line (which is great for congregations - especially if it is a new mass for them), but the edition I have has the congregation/melody line, the choral parts and the instrumental parts (in my edition’s case, for keyboard/organ). It also contains music for the Kyrie, the Gloria, two other Memorial Acclamations other than the one on the GIA site, the Our Father and the Agnus Dei. Again, I have not found an alternative English text to the Agnus Dei which works with the music.
 
Well I’ve been asked to do one of the Easter Day Masses at our church. I know we are still in the vain of Lent but has anyone picked their Easter Sunday Mass songs yet?
I sure would like to get you ideas.

Here are my suggestions:

Processional Hymn: Jesus Christ Is Risen Today

Easter Sequence: The organist at my church typically uses “Christ, The Lord, Is Risen Today”, a musical setting to “Victmae Paschali Laudes.” Here’s the music: printandpraise.com/songprint/file/149/preview/216844/100665.img
It’s a nice hymn. However, some just perfer the chant better.

Prepartion of the Gifts: Christ, The Lord, Is Risen Today to the tune of LLANFAIR. The organist at my church uses a hymn and it goes like “Christ is risen from the dead, risen as he truly said. Praise the Lord, with grateful voice, bless his name, rejoice! Rejoice!” And the refrain is a beautiful with Latin and a four-fold Alleluia. However, it’s really difficult to find.

Communion Hymn: At The Lamb’s High Feast

Recessional Hymn: Alleluia! Alleluia! to the tune of ODE TO JOY. Music: printandpraise.com/songprint/file/109/preview/152631/100631.img
