In my parish, after Fr. has given Communion to the congregation he goes either to give Communion to an elderly couple who sit in the back and then to the choir located just outside the sanctuary or directly to the choir if the elderly couple aren’t at Mass.

There have been the odd times that he became distracted and forgot to go to the choir. He realized it after he’d reposed the Blessed Sacrament so retrieved Him and went back.

Sometimes the music continues while the choir receives, most often it doesn’t.

Since the choir sings in unison, it would be easy for one or two at a time to slip away and receive with the congregation. That would keep the Communion song going until everyone has received. We did that before when we first got together as a choir and it worked well because of where we’re located but the present choir will not do that.
