I love this melody as much as I love the Ken Burns series on the Civil War. I find it haunting, especially since I have several Union soldiers in my family who died in the War. I was surprised to learn Ashokan Farewell is not an old tune but written for the series. Here’s another favorite:

If any of you are age 50+ and lived in southeastern Michigan during your childhood or youth, you may be familiar with this pretty song, which was the theme song from the “Patterns in Music” show on Sunday mornings on radio station WJR. I remember it fondly as a song that would be playing on my parents’ radio as we readied ourselves for church in the late 1960’s and 1970’s. Brings back lots of fond memories, as songs often do. May my beloved parents rest in peace.

Any Mumford and Sons fans out there? I certainly like them. They were playing in the Pacific Northwest a couple of years ago with U2.

My brother just turned me on to this Tunisian metal band. They have a Middle-Eastern / Oriental vibe going that is pretty cool.
