This is indeed a very moving piece from Enigma Variations, and of course the composer Sir Edward Elgar was a Catholic. This piece has been arranged by John Cameron for a choral presentation of Lux Aeterna and the lyrics utilise the Latin prayer as follows:
Lux aeterna
luceat eis Domine cum sanctis tuis
In aeternum:
Quia pius es
Requiem aeternam dona eis
Domine; et lux perpetua luceat eis
Cum sanctis tuis in aeternum quia pius es
which translates as follows:
Eternal light
shine upon them O Lord with your saints
Forever:
Because thou art.
Grant them eternal rest
O lord; and let light perpetual shine upon them
With your saints for ever because thou art.
Voces8 have made this their own with the following live recording at their centre in London.
Sit back and enjoy this!
