I have a question about the moslims. I have heard (for the life of me I can’t temeber where I heard it though, I think it was in college last summer) that Moslims are good at converting Christians and are hard as hell to convert to Christianity. Does anyone know why? I would have thought that scince we have the fullness of truth that it would have been the other way around. Any insight would be welcomed. Thanks and God bless.

To the best of my knowledge, no one has converted any significant numbers of Muslims. I was just talking to a Protestant friend the other day who knows someone who has been in an Islamic country for 20 years - and has converted a whopping 3 Muslims to Christianity…

One of the main reasons is the alleged simplicity of their beliefs. If you ever hear a bunch of Muslims proselytizing you’ll start to notice a common thread. Most of their arguments are very subjective and take the form of “selling points” rather than logical thought. The big selling point seems to be their cliched slogan of “there is only one God” while they try to trick people into thinking Christians worship three Gods. A lot of times, the most effective lies are extremely simple and easy to propagate.

In many Muslim countries it is illegal to try to convert a
Muslim to Christianity or any other religion. A Muslim who converts can be punished by death under these same laws. I believe in Saudi Arabia for example it is illegal for Christians to celebrate Mass or Services in public and Bibles may not be legally brought into the country.

interesting…I have a friend who does prayer walks in West Philadelphia and has a lot of discussions about life and faith with Muslims in Mosques and such.

Historically, from what I understand the preservation of their sacred text the Qu’ran is very sketchy.

I hope and pray that God ouwld raise up people who would be able to minister to sucha s these. It seems the harvest is ripe.

because Christianity is spiritual and the Trinity God is difficult to understand. Islam is more practical ( eat this, dress this, enter with your right foot, pray like this, pay this ammount ecc), and allah is very easy : one. This human mathematical invention : 1. So people tend to run away from uncomprehensible things and prefer the things that are understood by their human minds, the easy allah that mohammad created. Furthermore, muslim men can marry many women and can divorce whenever they want, and they have 72 virgins in paradise…so muslim men have sex here and in paradise. Mohammad wasnt stupid, he played on the psychology of lusty men and promised them sex with virgins if the go to war and bring him booties and sexual slaves. But why is the booty to Allah is beyond me.

With all respect, I could be wrong, but it is my impression that Karl Rahner’s theology of the “anonymous Christian” gutted the catholic church’s missionary efforts towards muslims. After all, why share the gospel with someone you believe is going to heaven?

I have been involved in a Catholic group called “the legion of Mary” we have a very marian approach to muslims and have had much success with muslims.

Muslims like to present themselves as part 3 of God’s plan

because of this many muslims are in the mindset of Christians with regards to Judaism. Of course, the fact that Islam emerged from outside the Catholic Church compared with the fact that the Church clearly exists as a hierarchical fulfillment to the OT hierarchy and even emerged from Jews.

Fr Edward Holloway talks an awful lot in his book “Catholocism- a new synthesis” about the unique unity and development which exists in God’s move from the Jewish system to the Catholic Church as His vessal for the salvation of all mankind.

so one approach to Islam is to show that Islam is not logically nor in reality a 3rd piece to a unity plan of God.

but of course, I think a key reason is a lack of holiness (daily mass not done by all, rosary not prayed daily by all, lack of fasting and mortifications among Catholics) among Catholics and an abscence of a true devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Some of the great saints of the past emgaged with successful apostolates to muslims. Vincent Ferrer was one. But most saints, like Ignatius, realised God was not calling them to convert Muslims but rather to renew the Catholic Church.

We should not forget a very important goal today is to bring lapsed Catholics to the faith, to reform Catholic education to keep the young in the faith, and to help Sunday Catholics become devout Catholics.

of course the apostolate to non- Catholics is a commandment of the Church so we should not give that up at all- but just remember, the Church is not in great shape so needs internal renewal to help provide for the future. Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary is key.
