An overwhelming majority of Muslim Canadians have a strong attachment to their country and feel that Canada is heading in the right direction, according to a new survey.
But the survey also finds that young Muslims, a cohort that is increasingly devout, have more attachment to their religious identity than older Muslims and are more likely to be concerned and pessimistic about discrimination
These are the findings of a survey of 600 Canadian Muslims conducted by the Environics Institute between November 2015 and February 2016. It follows up on a survey conducted 10 years ago and suggests that Muslim Canadians are becoming increasingly integrated into the broader Canadian society.

I’m trying to understand Islam and its followers. I see verses in their holy books that command them to, for example, kill other non-believers. Can anyone explain how someone could call themselves a follower of such a religion? Thanks,

You mean like the Bible does?

Perhaps you could introduce yourself to Muslim families in your neighborhood, ask to attend community prayer services, see how their family members pray every day (5 times), and how they live their lives loving God in a peaceful and devout way.

Just a thought.

The Bible has such commands too.

So shall we begin killing each other based on our holy books, or shall we try to understand the context in which they were written and perhaps give the Muslims the benefit of the doubt too as we expect the same done for us?

The Bible contains chronicles that included wars and indeed infanticide that happened in the past; the specific Islamic texts in question contain verses that command believers to do these things in the future. I am sure you wouldn’t want to call yourself a follower of Christ if he (supposedly) commanded you to kill others. Is it questionable, therefore, to worship such a God who commands these things?
